I have not been on a bus in well over 10 years now (and do NOTmuss the experience at all)
I have not ridden on rapid transit since I retired oer 22 years ago (ALL the pleasure and enjoyment has since vanished)
"
Today's "buses" are nothing more than rolling iPads/mutant insects.....ALL of the fun in riding mass transit has vanished.
And, to think what I grew up with, oer 60 years ago.....NO shortage of varuety!

On this day in 1960................
The last streetcars in Johnstown (PA) made their final runs.
This was the last "small town"operation to use PCCs, and also, the last to use "standard" cars(aside faside from New Orleans)
Several cars are stil lin operation museums today..............

I ride the bus now because I have to rather than because I want to. Of course, if an Old Look should pull up to the bus stop, it would be a different story.
Johnstown was a fascinating system, especially considering the size of the city. I've got the Images of Rail book on it as well as mentions in several other books. An interesting place that would have been fun to visit back in the day. |

I also have that "IMAGES OF RAIL" book; I sure wish I could go back in time, and ride those old orange streetcars!
The"V" paint on the dashes of the older cars always reminds me of PS's cars.
Amazing how this little system lasted as long as it did; sad that the trolleybuses only lasted until 1967.................

Cannot forget the historic inclined funicular in Johnstown; fascinating little operation!

| Los Angeles had several incline railways as well. Angel's Flight, Court Flight, Mt. Lowe, Mt. Washington, and the one up the bluffs at Playa del Rey come to mind. There may be a few others in the greater area as well. |

The always-charming "Angel's Flight" has always held a special fascination for me; like an old toy train set, it spent years in storage, after being taken down, and, years later, brought back to life!

| One more incline in the LA area in Upland just over the border into San Bernardino county. This one was pulled uphill by two mules who had a platform at the back of the car for them to ride downhill. Big job going uphill but at least they got to relax and enjoy the scenery on the way down. |
