W.B.:
Thanks for the info.
Does this route survive today (in any form) under the MTA?
Or, was it discontinued long ago?

2 questions
1:
Was this an ex-FACL or "Tee-Yay" bus?
2:
What capacity was this bus beunf used in, when this photo was taken?(Parks Department, perhaps?)

From what I could see, it was the "Tee-Yay" #2 from 1959. FACL's lot had side signs nearer to the entrance rather than towards the exit; on this, the side sign near the exit was a retroactive rebuild, "Tee-Yay" buses built up to 1963 did not have side signs originally. |

On this day in 1948..............
The last four TARS streetcar lines in "da Bronx" are replaced by "Soiface" buses.
The TARS routes replaced were:
"B"
"S"
"T"
"V"
"NYO"
*(The northern Bronx would continue to be served by Westchester County cars until 1952)

And they became, respectively:
- Bx-26 - Boston Road / Morris Park Avenue
- Bx-31 - Southern Boulevard
- Bx-40 - Tremont Avenue
- Bx-28 - Williamsbridge
A 1943 TARS map of "da Bronx" had several Bx- routes mentioned that, for a variety of reasons, were not "bustituted" in this form, and indeed, wouldn't be until the next decade in Yonkers and Westchester County. |

Thanks for the additional info.
So hard to believe that, today, it has been many, many years since a red-and-cream "Soiface" bus growked and snorthed along the busy streets of "da Bronx".
Exceept for those remaining long-time Bronx residents who are now well up in years, no one in "da Bronx" today would even have the slightest concept of "Soiface" once an integral part of the borough.........
