....in a tattered old copy of "BUS WORLD" magazine I have (circa-late 1980s) there is an article on the aforementioned Transportation Center in Buffalo.

It then served not only local lines, but also, GREYHOUND, TRAILWAYS, and also Canadian carriers.

Interesting............

Buffalo purchased a number of MACK "New Looks" in the late '50s; not long afterwards, they purchased the first "Jetson" Fishbowls.

Odd "that they purchased Fishbowls not at all long after they began operating the New Look" MACKS

Of course, the "Tee-Yay" was not interested in these new MACKS; ditto the Hudson County "indies" and PSNJ.

Yoinkers rostered some of thee jandsome buses, some of which later went to "BLUE & WHITE"(NJ)

"School days".................

In 1957, NFTA converted several "Oddballs" (TWINS) into school buses, for the contract school service they provided.

The converted buses feaured illuminated exterior "SCHOOL BUS" signs, flashers, and revamped seating...............

Further.........

PS/TNJ also operated contract school runs for many years.

This service used regular revenue coaches (transits) equipped with large flashers and folding "SCHOOL BUS" dash signs.

Between the AM and PM school service, the buses would return to regular revenue service.

This practice ended with NJT; I well remember seeing these buses all the time, back in the day.

This was once a commonplace sight with other carriers as well.......

As I had mentioned earlier, once NJT took over most bus operations in NJ in the early 80s, the practice of using transit buses as school buses ended.

I have in my collection several late 1950s/early 1960s tin school buses (friction and battery) that were clearly patterned after Old Looks (even down to the standee windows!)

Awhile ago, I came across a photo on the internet, showing a square-window Old Look that had been used as a school bus, but was sitting derelict in the woods.

Virtually identical to the vintage toys I mentioned!

I also have a tin friction Fishbowl school bus from the 1960s!

You had better school buses than we had. Of course, I rode my bike so didn't bother with our crummy school buses.
