Replaced with the newer "Jetson" Fishbowls, no doubt.
Three days after such "trackless trolley coach" "soivice" ended, "Boigan" Street and West 5th Street depots closed; a new depot, Fresh Pond, opened; and the B-72 Junction Boulevard line was transferred from Crosstown to Flushing depot and its jurisdiction changed from Brooklyn Bus Division to Queens Bus Division, in anticipation of its transfer of operation early in '61 to Triboro Coach and its being rebranded as Q-72. |

W.B.:
Given the fact that more than a few American trolleybuses were sold for service elsewhere after retirement, I always thought itoff that no buyers were interested in the Brooklyn coaches, then barely more than a decade old.
Odd, also, that neither Branford nor Seashore was interested in purchasing one of the coaches for their then-expanding collections......

Just was thinking......
PSNJ replaced their dual-powered ASVs in two stages; all HUDSON Division routes were converted to buses in 1947, while the ESSEX Divusion lines were converted the following year.......

....on Eyewitness News at 4, anchor David Navarro did a "run through" report on the Tremont Avenue Busway, up in "da Bronx".
Footage showed a slew of "BBs" ("Bendy BINOs") in both the old blue/white and current colors.
Disappointed as all heck that I did not see any red and cream "Soifce" buses during the report.......

Judging by this bustling scene at West Farms Square, it would seem that this was a busy transfer point, for both TARS and "Soiface"(note buses).............

A good number of them, however most Bronx routes were renumbered way back in 1984, so what a number signifies today is way different from before then. |

Pic #154548 would have been from 1958-59; bus #3001 was among the ten "Pattons" built in '58 with the green and cream "Ess-Tee" colors. And the first they took after FACL's 1956 takeover. And also the very last Macks built for "Soiface." (They would be renumbered 4900-4909 in 1963.) |

Appreciate the detailed info; once again, I'll say that a detailed, illustrated book of "Soface", its buses, rosters, and detailed info on depots, etc, is long, long overdue (ditto a detailed work on "stoa")
Not to mention another book on FACCo/FACL. where Fishbowls are given more than a passing mention......

Earlier, 1010 WINS reporter Mac Rosebnerg did a report on the many issues that the MTA is having with its hi-tech "juice buggies".
"Mr.Jan-OH!":
"......the buses all come from one builder....."
'....we were supposed to have a few hundred by now;we have less than 100......"
"....the buses are OOS at least 60% of the time...."
".....they are not reliable and are always breaking down......"
And, to think, decades afo, we had "Gee-Ems"and "Pattons" that that lasted over two decades in service........so much for "progress"........P

Wonder if this is why "Ess-Bee-Ess" lines have regular "BINO's" rather than the "Slinkies."
Can anyone say "Borough Bombers" Mark III or something? |

It could very well be that today's hi-tech "BINOs" are the 21 srcentury's version of the "Bombers".
It was bad en ough when MACK stopped building buses, but, when FLXIBLE, and then GM exited the business, that was the removal the last cornerstones supporting the American bus industry.
I'd PAY to see a "Rocky BRIL-boa" (ACF-BRILL) C-44 get into a little "skirmish" with one of today's tissue paper "BINOs"....it would NOT be pretty, for certain.....

......the ONLY electric buses to operate SUCCESSFULLY in "Noo Yawk" were the trolleybuses that ran in Brooklyn until 1960.
