From: "LOS ANGELES RAILWAY'S YELLOW CARS" (Jim Walker).......

".....in 1923, LARy and PE formed a joint operating company, the 'Los Angeles Motor Bus Company' to forestall bus-service competition.

".......the company was later renamed ''Los Angeles Motor Coach Company; LARY later added double-deckers to its fleet....."

The photo in the book shows bus #732 (FAGEOL); the bus has an open upper deck, and a (nearside) front door.......

This 1948 "POPEYE" cartoon is a HOOT! Wink

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olive_Oyl_for_President

In the dream sequence, Olive signs about how she would improve bus transportation in the cities.....

".......if I were President! If I were President! Each bus would have a smoother run, with lots of room for everyone....."

We see rush-hour crowds jamming aboard what appears to be an ordinary city bus; the doors close, and the bus pulls away from the curb.

The camera pulls back to reveal that the bus is as tall as a high-rise, with multiple levels!Shocked Shocked

I often wonder, when this cartoon debuted in 1948, if anyone who then worked for FACCo or the BoT was in the audience, taking it in, perhaps with a chuckle or two........ Laughing

"Greek Mirthology"(1954)

In this "Popeye" short (se tat the time of Hercules) we see traffic consisting of chariots, sedan chair taxis, and came;s being used as buses(!!) Shocked

One camel standing atop another, carrying passengers, wears a blanket reading:

"DOUBLE DECKER BUS"! Shocked

Reference to the recently-departed "Queen Marys"? Rolling Eyes

"Local inspiration"...........

In thinking back, in the now-classic Paramount Famous Studios cartoons of the 1940s throughearly1960s, whenever a bus stop scene was called for, the sign almost always the familiar "arrow through a circle".

Hmmmmm.....Now I wonder where that inspiration came from..... Wink

.....I DO have a somewhat fuzzy memory (WELL over 60 years ago!) of a Paramount Famous Studios cartoon where a seal escaped from the Central Park Zoo, bound to head back to the ocean.

I can JUST remember the wayward seal n the rear platform of a "Blunderbus", attempting to pay his fare with a fish he drew out of his coat pocket, as a floored, goggled-eyed conductor looked on!

That's all I can recall; funny, how I DO remember this part of this long-forgotten animated short! Wink

Not directly related to FACCo except in terms of who manufactured their buses from the 1920's until 1941-42, but I noticed near the end of Bugs Bunny Rides Again that he and Yosemite Sam rode to the train station on a stagecoach clearly marked "Yellow Coach." As in, the entity that made the first "Kramdens," before it was rebranded as "GM Truck & Coach Division."

We can both attest to this: Once you see such a detail, you can't miss it.
