Here is a riverfront view of the Weehawken, just after ferry service was shut down in 1959 (looking west)

Boulevard East, seen at the top, saw frequent bus service into the PABT (a 15 minute ride via the Lincoln Tunnel) by several independent bus companies (roday all long defunct)............

Jere are a few PSNJ photos that afford excellent views of the NYC's West Shore terminal and extensive yards; today, the area us nowtotally built over, and not a trace remains of the terminal (which burned down in 1962; I personally remember this massive blaze)

The sprawling yards, also, are gone without a trace.

ASVs served the terminal until 1947; streetcars until 1949, buses until 1959............

https://www.nycsubway.org/perl/show?116257 (interestingly, the former PS streetcar ROW is still intact today; the line poles are also still in place today, AFAIK)

*(The NYC ended tug/carfloat/lighter operations in 1968; a portion of the freight yards remained in operation until early 1976)

The tunnel...........

West Shore commuter trains (and freights) burrowed under Weehawken and Union City to reach North Bergen from the waterfront area.

Conrail used one of rge the tunnels through the 1990s; originally, there were two tunnels, but the old tunnel wall was demolished to make a new two-track tunnel for the HBLR..........

Here is the site of the former NYC West Shore terminal and yardst oday; the modern Waterway ferry terminal is out of the picture the right.

As you can see, nothingremains of any of the old NYC facilities..........

Port Imperial now occupies the site of the West Shore Terminal and yards; note the illustration from 1906......this how the area appeared through the 1950s.

Interesting history...........

This outstanding photo dates to about 1948 (looking notheast)

Note the massive grain elevator, which stood until the 1960s.

Note also the PS streetcar; hard to believe all seen here is now long gone.........

Cyberider:

Agreed!

The NYCRR also had an extensive marine yard at Weehawken, where ferries, tugs, and barges were maintained; this facility also included dry docks......
