| At least they got the expected life out of the old cars which is more than can be said for their PCC's. |

Agreed 100%.
That the postwar "Green Hornets" were barely a decade old before being scrapped/recycled truly reeks of waste on a monumental level.
The cars were barely broken in when they were prematurely destroyed.........

.....at least PE ran their PCC fleet for 15 years, far longer than the CTA did with their fleet of postwar "Green Hornets".........

| True, but still not long enough. The Glendale-Burbank Line where the PCC's were used was one of PE's busier commuter lines. |

And, recall now rhe ex-TCRT PCCs that ran in the Newark City Subway for nearly FIFTY YEARS (not counting the years that they were operated by the TCRT!)
Talk about LONGEVITY!!!!

I could NOT agree MORE!
The City Subway photos I took, back in the early/mid-1970s, could never be duplicated today.
Not only are the iconic PCCs long gone, but so much of the line's classic infrastructure either no longer exists, or has been since modernized.
So VERY fortunate for the many wonderful memories I have of this unique little trolley line!

On this day in 1956.........
The CTA replaced streetcars on the "49 WESTERN" line with buses; this was also the end of the "Blue Geese" PCCs, one of which survives as a static display at the IRM...........
