"Security"........
With the LIRR strike on, it would seem prudent to have TIGHT security around the yards, in view of the rash of recent "subway joyrides". especially at Jamaica.
Indeed, with the strike on, the Queens subway (and bus) lines are hoing to be packed to the gills, especially comes the Monday morning commute (think of Woodside with NO LIRR cnnbections to the #7!!)....it sure ain't gonna be a walk in the park.......

"CHANGE AT JAMAICA".........
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jamaica_station
I was watching news helicopter footage yesterday of the Jamaica station area (HATE that HIDEOUS Air Train/expansion structure) and was most impressed by the sheer complexity of the station are and adjacent MU yzards (not an "MP-54"in sight!)
The old station building was,of course, easy to spot.
Here is a (usually) bustling station with a rich and interesting history; Your's Truly passed through Jamaica quite refularly wellover 20 years ago, to spend a few days with my retired buddy from "The Floor"; I detrained at Ronkonkama.
On my last trip out I rode a new M-7 *not long after they began appearing), but returned on a veteran M-1/4"(LOVED their railfan windows!)
Seeing the "new and improved" LIRR concourse at Penn Station, I truly felt lost......I could recognize virtually nothing since my last visit about 2003 (my late friend and I ALWAYS frequented Rose's Puzzawhen we were there)
Though I did seem some news footage of the newer "M-9s", most trains I saw were the "7s" (and some of the the dual-mode trainsets).............

LiRR's Brooklyn Terminal (formerly Flatbush Avenue) had been in the news the past several days (prior to the strike) due to service to Penn Station being out due to track fire........

For many years, Ronkonkoma was my (late) best work bud Jim's "home station;"; he used this station for a number of years before retiring.
He then lived in Lake Grove, and I would ride out to Ronkonkoma from Penn on either a veteran "M-1" or an "M-3" when going out for a visit.
Last visit was back in 2003
This is an interesting page, which much historical info; note how the stations east of Ronkonkoma, a have been modified for the possible extension of electrified service.
Also, AMTRAK service east of the station, and a new bus depot...........

"Finger-pointing"...............
Regarding the LIRR strike (Day 2), the MTA is pointing a finger at the LIRR workers, while the LIRR workers are pointing a finger at the MTA.
Now, the "finger pointing" is also involving State and Federal factions............."Play nice, children, fair is fair!"

"THE BLAME GAME:
"Mr. JAN-oh!" spoke on 1010 WINS earlier:
".....we (the MTA) are always ready to get back to the bargaining table....we're available anytime...."
"......the unions chose to break off negotiations and walk alway from the table......"
Of course, the statements are QUITE the opposite from the LIRR workers.
It's gonna be QUITE ugly in the AM, with the Monday morning rush (the subways running into Manhattan from Queens, especially, are going to be CHAOTIC (ditto the buses).........

W.B.:
As much as I used to love visiting "The Is;and of Great Length" (and its historic lighthouses) years back (and also enjoyed riding on the LIRR) you could not PAY me to move oit there, and feel like I'm a potential hostage, should the "El-Eye-Double-Are" go out again.
My late bud from Ronkonkoma just missed out on the "El-Eye-Double-Are" strike of '94 by only weeks.
He was then living in Brooklyn, and was the taking the "F" into Manhattan (his "home station" was Ditmas Avenue).......

BTW.....
(pretty obvious that Eyewitmess News is becoming more and more "pro feminist"......."team coverage" of the LIRR strike was covvered by FOUR female reporters (guess all the male reporters were told to take the night off)
(I just shut the volume off, and watch the train footage!)
All the news broadcasts nowadays(all networks) are now almost like offshoots of "The View"

"El-Eye-Double-Are" negotiations "nooze" (Monday)............
News sources are saying that "talks have resumed" and both sides are "cautiously optimistic".
Let's keep our collective fingers crossed..........

"Backtracking"..........
Now, the MTA and LIRR workers are "far from reaching an agreement"
From both sides, there is more than plentiful finger-pointing, with the "blame game" HOT and HEAVY from BOTH sides.
As usual, the innocent, fare-paying commuter is held hostage, caught in the cross hairs..... :
