Both BUDD and P-S built the unique "Strata-Domes"; these unique cars also served AMTRAK..........

Cyberider:

You are, as always, most welcome......I've always been a BIG-TIME fan of the iconic RDC; I'm so very fortunate that I got to ride CNJ's as often as I did, as a lad! Wink

CNJ's RDCs........

During rush hours, several RDCs would be lashed up (and smokin' up a storm!) for "Clocker" service, between Jersey City and Raritan (and points west); Raritan was then the last major commuter station on the Main Line, out of Jersey City.

They'd also be found on the "Hunterdon Commuter" (rush hours only)

The RDCs also ruled the Shuttles between Newark (Broad Street) and Elizabethport (Newark Branch) and between Matawan and Atlantic Islands (Seashore Branch)

After the Aldene Plan of 1967, the RDCs were used almost exclusively on the Bayonne-Cranford shuttle ("The Scoot"); main line connections could be made at Cranford............

It is indeed a powerful sign that the ensuing years have flown by far too quickly, when you realize that the very first of the now-iconic Amtrak "AMFLEET" cars entered service over 50 years ago......a HALF-CENTURY! Shocked

I'm glad that I can say that I rode aboard "AMFLEET" cars several times in the past (the last was in 1997)

When the last of these long-lived and distinctive cars are retired, a long and iconic era will forever close on Amtrak.

They were/are, indeed, a easily-recognizable "trademark" of AMTRAK.........

Recalling the days of AMTRAK's mail and express service (I well recall substantial head-end traffic on the E-L and CNJ, through a good part of the 1960s)

Such traffic was once indeed integral to most passenger operations......

The thriving "nerve center" of the NEC is New York's Penn Station; sadly, in a monumental act of vandalism, the opulent and lofty station from 1910 was demolished over 60 years ago.

I am very fortunate indeed to have visited this legendary station a number of times in my long-ago youth.

This article is quite interesting, with a number of historic and modern photos, also, much detail on current operations.

The trains of AMTRAK, LIRR, and NJT all serve Penn..........

AMTRAK, NJT, and PATH trains all serve Newark's historic Art Deco Penn Station, which opened in 1935.

Until 2001, the iconic PCCs of the Newark City Subway still served this station.

It is the 7th busiest rail hub in the United States.

This is another his historic facility I knew well from my boyhood days, and through adulthood.

A trackplan of this busy station is also included in the article...........
