"Modern-day ASVs"/"pseudo trolleybuses"/"juice buggues",etc..........
Just was thinking about what the MTA fleet would have been like today, had the "'lectric bus" program taken root a decade or so earlier.
Who might have been producing the new vehicles?
While they were still independent, might the companies absorbed by the MTA in the early 2000s have also "taken the plunge", and began purchasing "juice buggies"?
Interesting "what if" to ponder............

Still haven't seen any of the new 40-foot "NEW FLYER "juice buggies"in my area; these buses are poised to be all on the roster by May, and are replacing the NABIs...........

A ''lectric" RTS..............
Had the RTS continued in production until the present day, I wonder if a battery version would now be offered ,and, if so,how much more efficient would they have been, over the "conventional" models of years past............

Speaking of "juice buggies," one of 'em caught fire on the "Noo Joisey Toinpike" . . .

Wonder to what extent the batteries had to do with it . . . |

W,B.:
Thanks for bringing this to my attention; from what I have been hearing, you and I are not the only ones concerned about "juice buggies" being afflicted wuth battery fires.
IMHO. I ifear we;ll be hearing a lot more on such incidents, as more and more "juice buggies" enter service.....scary, indeed......... |

Recall, also, back in 2025, the massive depot fire in Philadelphia, that destroyed a number of de-comissioned SEPTA buses, which was caused by the batteries in a PROTERRA.......
Scary stuff, for sure.............

iMHO............
The ONLY "'lectric bus" that I would feel TOTALLY SAFE riding aboard were the ones that had two trolley poles atop their roof, drawing "juice" from overhead wires.....(!!)

Meanwhile, up in "Bah-ston" (current bus roster).........
The MBTA currently rosters 80 40-foot NEW FLYER "juice buggies";some of these have left-hand doors for operation in the former trolleybus tunnel at Harvard.
Be sure to note the nostalgic 1967 photo taken at the busy Arborway yard (the lone "Patton"is indeed MORE than overshadowed, among all those Fishbowls and PCCs!)
