[quote="NEW YORK OMNIBUS 2629"]Recalling Chicago's Union Bus Depot...........

["CHICAGO EXPRESS"][/quote

The Loop terminal at Clark and Randolph was Greyhound's "flagship terminal" for many years. I used it many times traveling between Rantoul and Chicago in 1966 and '67., and again when going to Chicago in the '70's and '80's. Was very sorry to see it gone. The Penn Center underground terminal at 17th and Market Streets in Philadelphia, built in the late '50's was very similar. Very sorry to see that one gone as well...

traildriver:

At least, you were fortunate to personally know BOTH of these classic, now-gone facilities.

I truly believe that we have lost far too much of our valuable transportation history (especially GREYHOUND) to "progress", over the past several decades. Sad

Thankfully, there are still so many historical photos for us to pour over today, thanks to the ever-vigilant bus photographers of years past! Wink

The MCI "Courier"...........

These big, bold, and sleek highway coaches were once commonplace sights in Canada; both EASTERN CANADIAN GREYHOUND LINES and WESTERN CANADIAN GREYHOUND LINES operated a number of these handsome and distinctive buses.

Compare photos of these buses with the "AEROCOACH"; the huge "owl-eye" windshields are quite similar.

One wonders which manufacturer influenced the other, regarding these huge windshields....

The last of the "Courier's" was the Courier 95, but the early "Challenger's" that replaced them, had both "Courier" and "Challenger" on the name plate below the windshield, especially the ones that were sold to Canadian carrier's. I am not sure which Challenger model, maybe the MC-5A, finally dispensed with that name.... not sure...

traildriver:

From "BUSES OF MOTOR COACH INDUSTRIES" (Luke/Grams):

".......the 'MC-1' was the first of the 'ChALLENGER' series buses, introduced in 1959............."

Oddly enough, this is the only mention of the "CHALLENGER" series in this book........

traildriver:

THANK YOU! Wink

Will certainly enjoy these photos later on this evening! Very Happy

Being all built in Canada, it is little surprise that the MCI and PREVOST coaches of that era featured similar designs that were quite attractive.

The "boxy" look was indeed in vogue by that late date.....

You're quite welcome. Even more alike with the MCI, were those coaches built across town from MCI's Winnipeg home by Western Flyer. The "Canuck's" were very similar to the Courier's and Challenger's...

OUTSTANDING collection of photos showcasing REAL BUSES......thanks again! Wink

Looking at some of these buses, I am also reminded of "CROWN".

When my folks and I visited Canada back in 1966, and again in 1973, I well recall seeing quite a diverse selection of buses.......

FLXIBLE (Clippers/Visicoaches/Airporters)

PREVOST

MCI

WESTERN FLYER

(Ottawa,at that time, still had Old Looks, and Montreal was still running CCF-BRILLs)

The different eras these buses represented was quite interesting, the coaches displaying the styling changes through the years.

Interesting, also, that "SOMERSET" ("The Blue Star Route") had the distinction of being the first US company to operate a non-US bus (PREVOST "Champion"),in the late 1960s............
