In old London Towne................

Many years back, you'd see double-deckers with rolled-up canvas covers stretched across the radiators, which were unrolled as protection during extreme cold......

Just wondering...........

By the 1980s, when "Slinkies" were beginning to become popular with American transit agencies, I wonder if the manufacturers ever took consideration as to how these artics would handle in icy, wintry conditions.....ditto the operators located in areas where winter weather can often be indeed brutal..........

At the very least, the "Skinkies" that run out in "El-Ay" never have to worry about being "sidelined", due to heavy snowfalls and icy streets....... Rolling Eyes

Going back.........

To think that "Dee-Troit: had a small fleet of articulateds in the late 1930s; Baltimore began operating an experimental TWIN COACH artic in 1937.

Omaha had a small fleet of postwar TWIN COACH artics; the CTA had one postwar TWIN artic, which was later converted to a trolleybus.......

As bad as "Noo Yawk's" "Slinkies" have it during brutal winter months, I suppose "Shik-aga" has it worse?

But I see that the "See-Tee-Yay" didn't order a single bus from Flxible between 1969 (when their 96-inchers came to "soivice") and 1991 (when they ordered their "foist" Metro B's) - the complete reverse of the "Em-Tee-Yay" here. In some ways "Shik-aga's" bus history reminds me of Bizarro from the Superman comic books.

W.B.:

Strange, ain't it, as the "See-Tee-Tay" MORE than favored "Dangerfields" through the 1960s; it was not until the early/mid-1970s that management started to really "get serious" by purchasing large numbers of "Gee-Em" Fishbowls.

Too, look at how late the "See-Tee-Yay" began purchasing (later model) RTS............

Further:

Given that PSNJ was totally loyal to "Gee-Em" during the 1960s (also, later, TNJ),it is no surprise that "Pee-Es"never purchased any "Dangerfields" from Flxible.

As U've said before, "Dangerfields" were nowhere to be seen in the Hudson/Bergen County area until the mid-late 1970s, when the NJDOT purchased nearly 900 "Dangerfields"(this was the largest bus order in the State at that time)

The buses purchased for PS/TNJ routes marked the first time that FLXIBLE-built buses ran on former PS routes.......

Apropos of nothing, this next Wednesday we should be seeing temperatures in the 70's. And to think a week ago, there was snow falling and the temps were in the 20's and the winds were howling.

W.B,:

And, in my area, thereare still multiple parking spaces that are stillburied under tons of dirty, filthy, grimy, ice that STILL is showing little signs of melting, despite all the recent rain and milder temps.

This weather, like the world itself, is indeed insane. Razz

Well, at least, looks like the MTA and NJT won't be sidelining their "Slinkies" for awhile...... Wink
