........as the "Noo Yawk" area is supposed to get clobbered with some heavy-duty snow this weekend, perhaps the "Em-Tee-Yay" should take a cue from the omnibus and horsecar operators of the 1800s, and take off the wheels of their "BINOs" and "Slinkies", and substitute sleigh runners (NO chains required!)......... Though this is about buses, we have to think of the new "Staten Island Rattlers." This'll be their "foist" trial of fire. One wonders how they'll fare compared with the old "Fordy-Fours."

They're not likely to do that. Especially with the drive to outlaw horse-drawn carriages entirely from the city. But we can dream, can we? Wink

W.B.:

Good "pernt"! Wink

Wonder if "En-Jay-Tee" will sideline their "Slinky" fleet, when "da white stuff" starts to pile up, and the streets start to become icy......let's see now if they eventually suspend ALL operations (rail AND bus)

Eons ago, during serious snow events, the "E-L" would run those fearsome and formidable "Edison Wickerliners"back and forth all night, to try to keep the lines out of Hoboken up and running...........

"Hoid" a certain "Mr. JAN-oh!" state that "......all MTA buses are having chains installed......"

Hmmm.........it "soitanly" seems to Your's Truly, that, way back in the day, that this was pretty much a given, in "Noo Yawk and elsewhere as well...(!!) Rolling Eyes

Will the "rolling Wurlitzers" a.k.a. "Slinkies" be sidelined during the storm, I wonder?

W.B.:

Something is telling me that the "Slinky Specials"will be sidelined, as the storm progresses.

Would not be at all surprised if "En-Jay-Tee" did likewise, at some point (as this is a weekend, there is no need for "heavy capacity" rush hour headways)

TRUST ME, a "Slinky" is NOT a "BINO" you want to be aboard in wintry weather. ESPECIALLY in the REAR section(!!) Shocked Shocked Shocked

Aftermath of the Blizzard of '61 (Sutphin Boulevard)

The stalwart "Broadway Battleship" up on the El had already plowed through many a winter storm over the decades by this late date, while the sleek new "Jetson" down below was still pretty much "the new kid on the block".............

This "frozen tundra wasteland" photo" of da 'Moit'" looks like it might have been snapped during the infamous "Lind-sly"blizzard og the late 60s.............

So far, all I've "hoid" is that there had been a switching problem near Jefferson Avenue, and there had also been a train with "mechanical problems" earlier..........

I think I mentioned SIR's signaling is now powered by A.I., didn't I? That was what one motorman there had told me about a month ago. Let me guess: That train with "mechanical problems" was a "Rattler"?
