Here's "Jetson" #1 again, this time seen at Park Row & Beekmen, on a bright, sunny day in 1969..............

Notice, in 1968 on #1 they had two small ad racks in the back, each nestled between the rear wheels, while in 1969 the far back rack was taken out of that side. Also, how the other side of #20's advertising was positioned - no small ad racks, period, nor on the front.
And that #1 on which #1 travelled in 1969, became M22 in 1974. |

This veteran "Jetson" was indeed "quite long in the tooth" when caught on camera, back in 1981........

Interesting "FACCo" Old Look photo in "CHICAGO MOTOR COACH COMPANY" (Doyle).........
Photo shows a rear (3/4) view of a FACCo Old Look, taken during the War.
The caption reads:
"........during WW2, the ODT was responsible for the allocation transit vehicles, including streetcars, to companies that needed new equipment....."
"......these vehicles would be often quite austere, to save on hard-to-get wartime materials......"
".....pictured is a Fifth Avenue Coach Company bus in the ODT livery, of battleship gray and white........."

W.B.:
Curious as to if any ODT "wartime" FACCo buses arrived on the property in primer/battleship gray, before paint was in enough supply to add "the finishing touch", if you will........

Well, the "foist" TD-4506's, manufactured after the war was over, came in primer and battleship grey. Both FACCO's and, presumably, NYCO's. (Including the 1700 bus for subsidiary Madison Avenue Coach.) I don't think either entity got new buses between 1942 and 1946. |

W.B.:
Appreciate the info; thanks!
In "CHICAGO MOTOR COACH COMPANY" (Doyle) there is a rare two-page spread photo from 1945, showing an impressive parade of new GM buses on State Street:
"........the first new buses for the motor coach since 1942 are seen southbound on State Street, during a parade at Madison Street in 1945.........."
"......this 75-bus order was allocated by the ODT, and were delivered in a reddish-brown primer......"
"......as soon as paint supplies became available, the buses would be painted in motor coach livery....."
In this impressive photo, three buses sport CMCCo paint, while the remaining 12 are all in primer.
Impressive crowds were on hand to witness this event, two months before the War ended......

Another caption from the same book......
"......CMCCo Yellow Coach No. 1189, a TD-4505, is seen here newly delivered from Yellow Coach in 1942. This series of 35 buses would be the last new buses for the motor coach until 1945........."
