In the original opening sequence of the Honeymooners we see an old look GM TDH-4509 traversing the screen. It is a New York City Omnibus bus. This bus is number 2739 not the same bus used for the publicity photos with Jackie Gleason and the other cast members.
At that time 2739 was assigned to the 54th Street Depot for route 6 Broadway
In 1965 under MaBSTOA it was assigned to the 12th Street Depot for routes 12 Spring and Delancey Streets and 14 14th Street Crosstown.
Number 2969 from the publicity photos was originally assigned to the 100th
Street Depot to route 18 86th Street Crosstown. In 1965 under MaBSTOA it remained at 100th Street Depot. |

MaBSTOA 15:
Too bad that THIS buis was not "enshrined" in a place of honor, today!

Too bad EITHER bus - whether 2739 or 2969 - was not so enshrined.
One of 2969's cousins, 2966, made a cameo appearance in the 1960 Elizabeth Taylor film BUtterfield 8. Would love to have seen a picture of 2969 in its usual stance of service to the public on the 18 - especially after 1956 when NYCO's name was replaced on the sides with Fifth Avenue Coach Lines, Inc. (I've oft said that the fictitious Gotham Bus Company for which Ralph "brove a dus" was a thinly-disguised rebranding of NYCO - and that his boss Mr. Marshall may've been based on FACCo's and NYCO's longtime prexy John E. McCarthy.) |

Agreed 100%, my friend; obviously (and sadly) there weren't too many "Honeymooners" fans among the fellows who saw fit to allow the REAL "Jackie Gleason bus" to be junked
And, as you and I BOTH know, "once it's GONE, there is NO bringing it back"...........
