Until 1951, B&QT also maintained at sizeable streetcar yard at Fresh Pond, near the rapid transit yard.
The cars seen here are 8000-series double-ended Peter Wtts, the last two-man cars ordered by the company.
These distinctive cars were retired in the early 1950s..........

| Thanks, NYO. Lots of interesting stuff. That was the place to be for a full measure of rail transit. Just needed to be born earlier and have a long life to take it all in. |

Cyberider:
Indeed!
Not only was Brooklyn interlaced with a vast intertwining network of subway, el, and streetcar lines, but, until 1960, trolleybuses.
PLUS the LIRR!
NO SHORTAGE of VARIETY for the transit buffs of that era!

This rare c-1950 photo shows a B&QT PCC on McDonald Avenue, being temporarily held up by a lumbering "SBK" freight (here, the "SBK" shared the rails with the streetcars, making for some interesting railfan viewing, way back in the day!)

Cyberider:
When I was a young lad, I'd often say to Mom, "Let's take a long subway ride!" (we usually ended up at Coney Island, which Mom loved since girlhood!)
We'd take a "BMT" train (either a "Standard" or a "Triplex") from the lofty TSQ station oit to the original 1919-era Stillwell Avenue terminal.
We often rode the BMT Canarsie line (we'd take an IND 8th Avenue train from 42nd Street down to 14th St., where we catch a Canarsie line train (prewar cars!) and ride to the end of the line (Rockaway Parkway)
Today, this is the "L" line.
At that time, there was still a grade crossing at E. 105th Street; Mom and I were both reminded of the SIRT!
As an adult railfan, I rode all of the lines in Brooklyn, over the years (TOTALLY missed out on the rickety, decrepit, but truly intriguing Culver Shuttle, which closed in 1975)
I used to explore stations, hunting for abandoned areas, long-closed change booths, original mosaics, etc. (this was the "Indiana Jones" in me!)
So much has changed since those days of the 80s and even into the 90s; I have not been in the city since I retired in 2004, and have NO DESIRE to return.
No railfan windows ion the current trains, high-tech CBTC-signalling is replacing the old block signals, and the ever-present threat of becoming a statistic are all conducive factors for me to simplu stay at home and relieve all of the great memories (and there are PLENTY!)
Mom and I used to love taking rides on the old 69th Street Ferry, which ran from the SI Ferry Terminal at St. George to Brooklyn ( knew the names of ALL the boats!)
This busy line (which should have been retained) was closed down in late 1964, when the new (always-gridlocked) VZ Bridge opened.
Back in the early/mid-1980s, I spent almost every weekend at the NYCTM in Brooklyn (Court Street); man, the rare treasures I purchased there (for nominal prices!) that I lugged home to NJ on the subway and the bus!
I used to enjoy walking over the Brooklyn Bridge, pretending it was 1940, and I was surrounded by clattering, screeching BMT El trains and clanging B&QT streetcars!
Was a LOT of fun, back then, for sure!
