Note how the simple, yet stylish livery adorning this impressive "Chariot" is reminiscent of TRAILWAYS.......

Appreciate the link....thank you!
If I am not mistaken, the only "experimental" coach that operated in (regular) revenue service by GREYHOUND was the "Golden Chariot".
It also would have been most interesting to see what later GREYHOUND buses might have looked like (built by GM) had the company not gotten out of the intercity coach business.
Would they have continued to (for a time) "update" the "Buffalo"?
Or, might they have looked towards MCI and PREVOST for new design inspiration?
I have often, I will admit, thought about GREYHOUND operating VanHools...............

Greyhound operated many 'experimental' coaches throughout the 20th century in regular line service...
Besides the aforementioned, GX-1 Highway Traveler, there was the GX-2 Scenicruiser prototype, the Mack MVD-620--here's a great recent video of it restored... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eZEwb4NHHRM
Then there were a series of experimental MCI's the first MCX-1 Challenger,
the huge MC-6X Supercruiser which ran for a couple of years before the MC-6 went into limited production.
As far as Van Hools....Greyhound bought some standard C2045's and now CX45's. |

More than likely, Greyhound being the industry leader ran many more experimental buses that we haven't mentioned, from most of the leading manufacturer's going back in history...Yellow, GM, ACF, Flxible, and others.
Another example was the MC-7 and later MC-8 "Turbocruiser's" powered by Allison Gas Turbine engines. |

Good points, all.
I had forgotten about the unique "TurboCruiser"!
Hard to believe that, today, we recall that GREYHOUND has operating MCIs for SIXTY YEARS now!!
WHERE does the time get to?
Without a doubt, I think it's pretty obvious that the company has been MORE than happy with the MCI, given the past several decades of operation.....

From "GREYHOUND BUSES" (William A. Luke)......
"........a fleet of four Greyhound 'Turbocruiser' buses, which were MCI's 'MC-7s' entered service in September, 1972......"
".......these buses operated daily round trips between New York and Boston, and New York and Washington, DC......"
"......the 'Turbocruisers' offered a smooth, quiet ride, and the turbine engine in each bus emitted practically no waste particles into the air......"
"......engine life was expected to be double that of the conventional bus engines of that day......."

Interesting.........
Today, I just received a copy of "PACIFIC ELECTRIC'S RED CARS" ("Images Of Rail" series, by Jim Walker); I came across two photos from the 1940s/early 1950s that I thought would be of interest......
One photo shows an REA truck backed up to a PE "box motor", the car being loaded with express packages; in the background, above the car, is a building with "GREYHOUND" prominently displayed.
According to the photo caption, this building was then GREYHOUND's Los Angeles terminal.
Another photo (early 1950s) was taken from PE's elevated station in downtown LA; we see a PE Old Look is waiting for the lights to change at 6th Street (view is looking down Los Angeles Street); on the right, we see the Greyhound depot...........

"LIFE AFTER GREYHOUND".........
It would be quite interesting to see a published (illustrated) work on the disposition of buses operated by GREYHOUND through the years, after they had been retired by the company.
Purchased by "indy" intercity outfits?
Sold for service as tour buses?
IMHO, I think such a work would be indeed interesting; just my 2 1/2 cents' worth.......

This later-day view of the sleek, eye-catching 1960s-era terminal is just as dated as the RTS seen passing by......so much has now vanished.....
