Further..............
And, until late 1966, the CNJ operated commuter trains from Jersey City and Broad street (Newark) to Keansburg, via the now long-gone Atlantic Highlands ("Seashore") Branch.
Until the 1960s, excursion boats from Jersey City/Lower Manhattan/Brooklyn would dock at a long pier at Keansburg, where passengers reached their connecting buses (to the amusement area) via a miniature railway.
Sadly, this came to and end in 1966, when the pier was destroyed..........

Asbury Park, 1977 ("down da 'Joisey' shore")...........

After the Aldene Plan (1967) rerouted CNJ trains from Jersey City to Newark, my folks and I no longer took the train down "da Shore" to visit relatives (my folks were now understandably leery about going into Newark, after the '67 riots); we instead went down via "Pee-Es" (we'd be met at the Asbury Park "station", certainly a "no frills" facility!) 
In this photo we see a veteran "Jetson", awaiting pull-out time...........

Yes, indeed! 
After the Park closed in 1971, PSNJ took a BIG hit, regarding traffic to Palisades Park; not only with "regular" runs, but also, the many charters they operated each season.
It was not at all uncommon to see three or four dozen chartered PS buses, parked in rows, awaiting the crowds of homebound merrymakers!
In my neighborhood, the NHBL operated the seasonal "2", which was basically an extension of the "1" (JSQ-Nungessers); this ALWAYS well-patronized line ran past Nungessers, east to Palisades Avenue, and then north to the Park's main gate.
These buses ran right by our old apartment building in Union City, so I recall them well (we also made good use of them ourselves!) 
I can only remember (crowded!) Old Looks on the #2 (windows ALWAYS wide open!)
Ahhh, the good ol' days...........

Your's Truly remembers the "Shoimans" that were operated by "COAST CITY COACHES (Manasquan/Asbury Park), way back in his long-ago kid days.

By the later 1970's, the veteran "COAST CITY" Old Looks were replaced by NJDOT "Dangerfield, Jrs"..............

Here's an interesting (classic "Noo Yawk!) 1972 photo (note, also, the famed "zipper" news sign!) of a "NEW YORK, KEANSBURG, & LONG BRANCH" Fishbowl, working on a "PEAK ALTA TOURS" charter (note the sightseeing roof panels; wonder if this might have been an ex-World's Fair bus?)...........

The "Mark II" zipper, first put into "soivice" in March, 1965. They were, at that point, on their second display font, Digital Equipment Corporation type used via Extel teleprinter perforators that spat out letters and numbers instead of codes, that were put through a transmitter that, in turn, elicited what was then displayed on the "zipper" - and which was used by Reuters from 1971 to c.1977-78.
But then, those World's Fair buses were made post-1963, therefore all "Bullets." Never saw a "Jetson" with those overhead windows.
As for the aluminum stripe on that bus above the passenger side windows, I wonder why the "Em-Tee-Yay" never got to using that type after disposing of their "batwings" after 1984.
And though it was cut off in that picture, the time/temp display outside that building near which that bus stopped, was made and controlled by American Sign & Indicator. |

Again, thanks for sharing some VERY interesting "Noo Yawk" trivia!
I often wonder just what companies in "Joisey" purchased the GREYHOUND "Bullets" after the Fair closed.
I recall (and riding) on several reostered by "ORANGE & BLACK", many years back; "SOMERSET" also had this type of bus, as did DE CAMP.
Ditto "Pee-Es".
As to which "sightseeing roof" Fishbowls (those operated by the "suboiban" carries in NJ), I have no idea which had run for GREYHOUND during the Fair, and those purchased new from "Gee-Em".
I'm now thinking of a thread of the Fair's buses I started here quite awhile back.......I have dig this one up..............

That "foist" pic showed that "Gee-Em" still made those with "roof" windows after 1968 - three years after the last NYWF ended. |

As I had mentioned earlier, DE CAMP also rostered some "sightseeing roof" Fishbowls, but these were not ex-WF buses............

Remembering...........
After the last Orange & Black "Suboiban" Old Looks were retired in 1977, the "MAPLEWOOD EQUIPMENT CO." fleet (based out of Fairview) consisted of both "Jetson" and "Bullet" Fishbowls.
Though most Fishbowls were "straight suburbans", some were what I refer to as "semi suboibans" (single door/plastic seating)
After 1977, these buses were both originally "ORANGE & BLACK" and "INTER-CITY".
There were also a few 4104s and 4106s; also, some "Buffalos".
STILL a lot of "fleet diversity" for the bus enthusiasts of that day (and Your's Truly was one of them!)
