Oh, and back to the here and now: The Mets lost by one run last night. Let's see how they fare after this game. And the Yanks game is delayed with them tied.

Radio-wise, back in the 30s/40s/50s/60s, what "Noo Yawk" radio stations would carry local games?

["B.M.T. LINES"]

For the Yankees: On an off over the years, what is today WCBS but what until 1946 was known as WABC (but by no means to be confused with the OTHER WABC which ran them for years starting in 1980-81). Radio broadcasts for all teams started in 1939, and went on . . .
- 1939-40: WABC [WCBS]
- 1942: WOR
- 1944-57: WINS
- 1958-60: WMGM (became WHN in 1962)
- 1961-66: WCBS
- 1967-70: WHN

For the Giants:
- 1939-40: WABC [WCBS] (Mel Allen announced both Yankees and Giants games in this stretch)
- 1942: WOR
- 1944-45: WINS
- 1946-57: WMCA (future Chicago Cubs announcer Jack Brickhouse handled "Jints" announcing duties in the first year)

And last but not least, the Dodgers:
- 1939: WHN, WOR
- 1940-42: WOR
- 1943: WHN, WOR
- 1944-57: WHN (became WMGM in September 1948)
- 1955-57: WHOM (Spanish language broadcasts)

Now we get to the Mets . . .
- 1962-63: WABC
- 1964-66: WHN
- 1967-71: WJRZ
- 1968-69: WABC-FM
- 1970-71: WNBC-FM
(Notice, two radio stations broadcast Mets games in the 1968-71 period, each in a different "band." WABC-FM would become WPLJ in 1971.)

I had heard this just awhile ago on 1010 WINS.

How fast a "hot" team can (literally) run out of steam. Sad

Yep, the "pendulum" is swingin' again...........

While the other team, heretofore left for dead, comes roaring back to life . . . as I keep saying, a "seesaw."

The Mets played a "make up" game today which I was not aware of; NICE that THEY were on the RIGHT side of a shut-out, for a change........ Wink

And who'd they beat tonight? The baseball "Redboids." Too bad the subway "Redboids" are no longer around to carry fans to and from the game - except this was played in the same city where those cars were produced.

No doubt St. Louis had a colorful transit history in the past . . .

W.B.:

St; Louis once had a very extensive streetcar network; the very last cars ran in 1966........

AAAAhhhh, 1957.....the SAME year year that Your's Truly hit this planet (January!) Wink

LOVE how all three subway divisions are listed (as well as transfers and connections); how ironic that, by the time of the 1958 guide, Ebbets Field would have been shuttered, closed forever. Sad

I also like the little artist's rendition of an "Are-17" (doubt they would have depicted a prewar car! Wink

HAD to chuckle: "....the subway is the safest, most dependable way to travel......." (2024 was STILL light-years off!)

And, in '58, the last of the ancient "Hi-V's" would be retired. Sad

Sad indeed that none of the fellows who played for the three "Noo Yawk" teams in '57 are still with us today, long since retired to that big bullpen in the sky. Sad Crying or Very sad

In '57, on a lighter note, we still had SURFACE and FACL buses moving the masses, not to mention the B&QT trolleybuses! Wink

Betcha a lot of the younger "Noo Yawk" fans (i.e. the "young whippersnappers") couldn't name even one of the players from ANY of the three '57 "Noo Yawk" teams. Sad

Yep, back in '57, the "Living Legends" still walked (and played) amongst us........ Wink

Here's an excellent and fascinating page on the fabled Polo Grounds; many historic photos and illustrations here:

https://untappedcities.com/2021/03/31/new-yorks-baseball-team-lost-ballpark-polo-grounds/

Talk about the loss of an iconic "Noo Yawk" ballpark, with nothing remaining; even the "Football Giants" ("Leatherheads"!) tore up the turf here! Wink
