Midtown Plaza in Rochester,NY is now closed as of today. However, the Greyhound-Trailways bus terminal is staying put at that location at least through October. Beyond that is anyone's guess. Regional Transit Service bus routes also affected directly by Midtown's closing are 91-Avon Park n Ride, 20-Brockport, 21-Fairport, 22-Penfield, 17-East Avenue, all of which also use the bus terminal at that location. It is planned that Midtown Plaza will be demolished for the new Paetec headquarters to be built on that sight. Where the bus terminal for intercity buses as going to be located is up in the air at this time. Midtown Plaza opened in 1962 and,at the time, was the first totally indoor shopping plaza built anywhere. Everything that could be auctioned off was yesterday, August 14. Now only memories, and for now, the bus terminal remain. Until or unless the Rennaissance Center is built, where Trailways and Greyhound are going to operate from is anyone's guess. If Rochester wanted a truly intermodal terminal, they would havedone what Syracuse has done. combine the Amtrak Station with the terminal for Greyhound,Trailways and local buses in a single terminal facility. Why Paetec could not just used the existing Midtown Buildings is beyond me. This is one more example of incompetent and bad planning on Rochester's part. No wonder Rochester is on the way to becoming another Detroit.
