Until 1956, Liverpool's "Overhead Railway" was the only rapid-transit elevated system in Great Britain.
It was also the firsr elevated railway in the world to use automatic signalling, electric color light signals, and MU rolling stock.
A rich and fascinating history, to be sure.............

Until 1900, folks visiting the seaside at Brighton (England) could enjoy a ride on the "world's only sea-going trolley", which looked as though it had been designed by the illustrious Jules Verne himself!
The "tram" carried lifeboats and was manned by a "skipper"!
The rare photos on these page are beyond unusual and thoroughly intriguing.........

Further:
It is also quite interesting to note that this highly-unorthodox "monorail" in the Bronx (see previous post) also had corporate ties to the INTERBOROUGH, TARS, and, also FACCo (Fifth Avenue Coach Company)..........

Here's an interesting and fascinating page on the history and development of monorails (there are some fascinating historical images here as well!)
Enjoy!
