traildriver:

Check out these flamboyant and colorful behemoths (intercity coaches) from down Peru way: though I admit I am no fan of these modern types, they DO, indeed, make for quite interesting photo subjects! Wink

While on the subject of "south-of-the-border" intercity buses, mention must be made of the classic (Flxible-style!) "DINA", a highway classic in its own right........... Wink

With the crises in the Middle East escalating by the hour, I would imagine that there will be extra security concerning buses that serve primarily Jewish areas, running out of the PABT.

I know that there is already a very noticeable increase in police at the PABT, from what I've seen on the news.

Doesn't "SHORTLINE" serve areas that are heavily Jewish ("COACH USA"?)

Can only pray that this barbaric conflict will end soon.........

Scroll down page (right side) for an interesting vintage photo of the Tel Aviv bus terminal, taken during the Mandate era.

Note the lengthy, modern platforms, suggesting a large American rail hub of that era.

The modern lines of the terminal contrasts sharply with the antiquated buses! Wink

back around 1985 when I drove for Clausen bus service one of the crews we had was El Al. There was a Israeli army agent with a uzi with us. When they shot up a couple of El Al counters overseas we had police escorts on all El Al crews. It was a unmarked car about a mile ahead then a highway patrol car a Esu truck us then a esu truck then a highway patrol car. And it was full lights and sirens all the way.

I thank you for sharing your experience here.

It could NOT have been less than harrowing, for sure.

El Al, being the premier airline of Israel, must be operating with mega-beefed up security at its facilities.

I know that their airliners are the only ones flying that are equipped with missile defense systems

Awhile ago, we had been discussing segragation on intercity buses, into the 1960's.

With both GREYHOUND and TRAILWAYS, I wonder (in relation to a particular route) where the segregated seating rule went into effect.

In Diana Ross' autobiography, she recalled riding with her family (from Detroit, during the 1950's) via GREYHOUND, down to Bessemer, to visit family.

She remembers having to "change seats" in Cincinnati.

Thankfully, those days are now long, long gone, but I am interested in just where African-American passengers had to "change seats" on trips heading south.

I'm guessing it would have been at a station where a stop was made, before crossing the line of a segregated state.....

Segregated seating on GREYHOUND was also touched upon in the early 1990's Hallmark Channel movie, "LOVE FIELD", taking place during the funeral of President John F. Kennedy in November, 1963.

These scenes featured a "SCENICRUISER" enroute from Dallas, heading for Washington............
