I was wondering, how come the DE35LF(R) hasn't been such a big seller for New Flyer?
I can understand why no DE30LF(R)s have been produced, as the 30-foot hybrid market is largely dominated by the Optima Opus Hybrid, a lighter, less expensive solution. However, I believe that AMA of San Juan, Puerto Rico is the only TA who operates DE35LFs. No DE35LFRs have been produced as of now.
Could a possibility be that the fuel savings from the DE35LF(R)'s lighter weight might only be marginal compared to the DE40LF(R), making the extra capacity of the DE40LF(R) more economical? The hybrid drivetrain might have something to do with this. |
