According to the April 30th update of the NE Transit roster, the first buses from the MBTA's 155-bus D40LF option order are now in service. #0756-0759 and 0762 are assigned to Quincy garage.

According to the 5/14 NE Transit roster update (referencing an MBTA official's quote in a Quincy newspaper), 65 of the new D40LF's will be assigned to Quincy, 65 to Lynn and 25 to Cabot. Once the new Cabot buses are in, the older D40LF's assigned there will go back to Charlestown. Also, 10 to 15 of Cabot's NABI low-floor buses will go to the Arborway garage to allow that garage to begin freeing up the 2001-2124 group for a planned overhaul.

I know the T isn't as fussy about assigning buses in numerical order these days, but this is what the New Flyer assignments might look like once the deliveries are complete:

0600-0754 - Charlestown
0755-0819 - Quincy
0820-0884 - Lynn
0885-0909 - Cabot

I just returned from a weekend in Boston.
I had the opportunity to see lots of MBTA buses in action, including lots of NF D40LF's. I also saw Neoplan AN-440LF's and NABI CNG's, plus a few RTS's.
Question 1: I noticed that on an MBTA D40LF (unfortunately I couldn't grab the fleet number) mounted immediately below the right rear (red) marker lamp was a similarly sized green marker lamp; is this a side-mounted "hoodlum lamp"?
Question 2: On the MBTA AN-440LF's, is the HVAC unit roof-mounted near the front of the bus? (At first I thought these units were hybrids).

You need to give some advance notice next time!

I'm not sure what that light is for, but I don't believe it is related to the green hoodlum lights found on the front and rear of all MBTA buses since 1972.

Yes, that is the HVAC unit. I believe all of the MBTA's Neoplan buses and trolley coaches have roof-mounted A/C.

This is probably a "retarder" light. I don't work for MBTA but this is just my guess.

0756 has been transferred to the Charlestown Garage. I saw this bus in service on the Route 89 this morning 05/27.

The first D40LF's at Lynn Garage entered service on Thursday August 7th following a press conference at the downtown Lynn busway. MBTA General Manager Daniel Grabauskas announced that Lynn will be receiving 70 of the new buses (instead of 65 as previously announced) and Cabot Garage will be getting the final 20 buses in this order.

As of the August 10th NE Transit inventory, seven of the D40LF's are active at Lynn (0820-0826), while Quincy Garage has all but three of its new buses in service (0756-0776, 0778-0813, 0815-0819).

I spotted D40LF's 0857 and 0858 on I-84, passing through Waterbury, CT this morning, being delivered to Boston.
