Another great photo.
The old bus garages from many decades ago had a character and, yes, even a sense of permanence that the new, hi-tech facilities will never have.
So much history in a building such as this......

Thanks "NYO". That was the first garage I reported to as a newly hired Cleaner. July 1985.

You are welcome.
Interesting that you actually worked in that garage; back in those days, you had RTS, Fishbowls, and Flexies (aka "Danhergields") on the streets......ahh, the good ol' days.....

Back then, the Flexies and the RTS were "just everyday" buses; today, they are now classics in their own right, evoking a lot of great memories.
The RTS, it seemed, would always be on the streets of "Noo Yawk".......

I certainly was not considering anything classic while trying to sweep 63 of them every night!

Once a New York Railways car barn, then for years housed NYC Omnibus and then, from 1956-62, Fifth Avenue Coach Lines buses. Everything from the Yellow 718's to the first-gen Fishbowls. And that was all before the MaBSTOA takeover.
Interesting how some car barns were torn down to make room for other places. One on the west side of Eighth Avenue between 49th and 50th Streets made way for Madison Square Garden (III) (now the locale for Worldwide Plaza), then another on the west side of Tenth Avenue between 53rd and 54th Streets is where the AT&T switching building now stands.

Also . . . that office building in the background seen above the east face of the depot, 1633 Broadway - that, my friends, is on the block where once, eons ago, the Loew's Capitol (one of the grand movie palaces of old) had stood.

Here's a view of the former TARS car house, then being used as bus garage (Broadway & 216th St., 1972)........

Another wonderfully nostalgic picture of "Olde Noo Yawk"; thanks for posting and sharing with us.
I love historic old photos like this, where the buses look like BUSES, instead of giant milk cartons or mutated caterpillars....(!!)

....if only we could go back in time, and see this all with our own eyes.......
Those then-modern YELLOWS look so old-fashioned and antiquated, now.....BUSES that looked like BUSES!
