There always was a problem when a study was done on GBL. NYCDOT chose not to do anything to make service better. NYCDOT had a study done that said GBL should be running 260+ buses during rush hour. GBL only was assigned 235 total, spare buses included.

Bob,

Very impressive overview of Green Line with some surprising results despite the fact that it was done eight years ago.

I wouldn't have dreamed that Q10 would ever have surpassed Q60 in ridership!

The one very interesting suggestion which was discussed even as far back as my time with the company was the extension of Q35 all the way to Far Rockaway thus eliminating the Q22 altogether - that made sense then and it makes sense now!

It's also good to see that the old Q22A (known as the Green Grocer's run and the shortest route in the city) is holding its own in Far Rockaway.

I also agree that the Q60 should terminate in Jamaica proper with service south of Jamaica Avenue left to the 40, 41 or 9.

It would be fascinating to see a present day report and how it might differ in terms of passenger usage on all of Green Line's routes.

Good job on digging this information out.

This is a large study (accessed from www.nyc.gov via the "Transportation"selection on the drop-down menu). It covers all PBL's (except, for some reason, CBC). On one of the thumbnails, there is one very large (949 page) pdf file that provides statistics on every single PBL-operated local bus line in Queens (GBL included).
There is a lot of data contained in this report, but it is a useful reference for bus fans and historians.

I neglected to mention that the NYCDOT study also includes an analysis of Bronx and Queens express bus services.
Also included in this report are several express bus maps, along with maps of Queens local bus routes.
