Another question I'm pondering at the moment......

With such a glut of used highway buses on the market at present, when (hopefully) the pandemic finally begins to make a long-overdue exit, will there be buyers (i.e. operators) to purchase these buses?

Given the dire straits that GREYHOUND has been in for some time now, my guess would be that its current fleet would remain basically "status quo" until either all bus operations end, or, if another company assumes operation of the remaining routes, at some future date.....

.....the scary thing to contemplate is what will happen to the newest and most up-to-date buses, if, eventually, no buyer can be found.

IMHO, I doubt that these vehicles could even hope to be purchased by foreign buyers, given the current dismal state of things across the globe......

Speaking of obscure, long-defunct carriers.....

I have a very rare timetable for "KING BROS. BUS LINES, INC."*, from January, 1943.

This was a Midwest carrier that had terminals/stations at the following (Ohio) locations:

ABERDEEN

BOUDES FERRY

BUENA VISTA

CENTERVILLE

CINCINNATI

DAYTON

FELICITY

FRANKLIN

hIGGINSPORT

LEBANON

MANCHESTER

MASON

MOSCOW

NEVILLE

NEW RICHMOND

POINT PLEASANT

PORTSMOUTH

READING

RIDGEVILLE

RIPLEY

SHARONVILLE

XENIA

*HQ for this company was:

702 SCHMIDT BUILDING

CINCINNATI, OHIO

TELEPHONE: CHerry 4580

"NYO"

(It would also be interesting to find out what makes/models of buses this company once used; also, when did the company go out of business, or, possibly, when was it absorbed by another company)

Also from the aforementioned "KING BROS. BUS LINES" timetable:

".........the Office of Defense Transportation has ruled that buses may not exceed a speed of 35 miles per hour........"

".......we beg your indulgence if we are late, but, please remember that we are at war, and are doing everything possible to cooperate with the government to save equipment and materials that are impossible to replace....."

"......in order to save time, gasoline, tires, and conserve the equipment in general, we are now establishing regular bus stops in each city and town where we operate. After these stops are established, they will be the only point in these cities and towns where stops will be made for passengers to board and leave the buses......."

Another rare item I dug out of my archives is a typewritten sheet (with holes for mounting in a binder) from 1949, for "DIXIE GREYHOUND".

This was a "TIME SCHEDULE", issued by Edwin J. Bomer, Vice-President of Traffic, dated 10/10/49.

Address given for "DIXIE GREYHOUND":

527 N. Main St., Memphis, Tennessee

Arrival and departure times were CST.

Times were given for running between Memphis and Mammoth Spring (Ark)

Stops included:

W. MEMPHIS

MARION

JERICHO

CLARKEDALE

TURRELL

GILMORE

TYRONZA

MARKED TREE

HARRISBURG CORNER

TRUMMAN

BAY JCT.

NETTLETON

JONESBORO

SHADY PARK

BONO

SEDGWICK

HOXIE

WALNUT RIDGE

PORTIA

POWHATAN

BLACK ROCK

IMBODEN

RAVENDEN

WILLIFORD

HARDY
