These 1954 photos show gutted cars after a fire at the lower level at 9th St.; as can be seen by the severe damage inflicted on the cars, the fire had to be a "hot" one.......

In this rare view, disabled PCC #1052 is seen being towed by a hefty service truck back to the 9th Avenue depot for repairs........

I've posted these two Peter Witt photos as a contrast to the PCC's; note that the first photo is a builders photo, with the car (#8000) sporting a more elaborate paint scheme than was used in later years......

A later-day view of Peter Witt #8361 at the 9th Avenue depot; looks like a fan trip was about to get underway......

Prior to the PCC's, the handsome 6000's were the most modern streetcars in the B&QT's fleet.......

Here are two views (right hand side and left hand side) views of the 6000 series Peter Witts.

Note that that their lines were more angular than the older double-ended Witts, giving them a more modern appearance.

Recall that, PCC #1000, built by CLARK, featured a body that was more angular in appearance than the other PCC's, which featured more rounded, streamlined car bodies......

Must make mention of this unorthodox TARS depot, as we had mentioned the two-level B&QT depot at 9th Avenue:

This TARS car house in Yonkers was highly unusual, in that it not only had multi levels, but also, used an elevator to carry the streetcars up to the upper level.......

Joe:

As you and your dad once visited car houses, perhaps you visited this small TARS barn in Mount Vernon (near Sanford Blvd); these two contrasting photos were taken in 1949 and in 1991.......

Meanwhile, back in Brooklyn........

Here is Peter Witt #8163 at the Fresh Pond Rd. depot (interesting comments on this page, also):

This elderly open-platform work motor (note the old hand brake staff) was snapped at the Canarsie depot.

This car (#9421), at first glance, resembles an old open platform El car; when this photo was snapped, the work motor seen here had many, many service years to its credit.......

A Peter Witt is here blocking the progress of a PCC at the 9th Avenue depot; the comments on this page are of interest.......

It is interesting to note that the two-level B&QT depot at 9th Avenue also had a transfer table.

This transfer table was used in the area used for maintenance work on the cars, including the PCC's.

PSNJ also used a transfer table at their massive Plank Road shops in Newark; across the Hudson, NEW YORK Rys. ("The Green Line") used a transfer table at their Manhattan carbarn (4th Avenue & 32nd).......
