Again, a German tram message board has a photo collection that includes some unusual buses from the 1950's.

At the link, scroll down through 29 photos. The captions are beneath the photos. Ignore the misleading colons ending some captions. I am amazed at the trackless trolley pulling a two-axle trailer in photos 10 and 20.
It seems that many local buses had three axles. Were tires too weak for the weight?
Photo 22 shows a 1929 diesel bus!
Photo 26 shows a bus and trailer with roof containers for coal gas (presaging CNG on LI Bus?).
The city is Bielefeld, quite north of Frankfurt.
