Joe:
As always, greatly appreciate your input; just when the waiting shelters were destroyed is exactly the information I am looking for (of course, once the streetcars were gone, there was no longer a need for an interlocking tower)
You are correct; it IS difficult to search the vast photo archives unless you know the number of the car you are looking for; however, it is a great deal of fun browsing through those thousands of old views, which, for transit enthusiasts today, truly keeps the past forger frozen in time.
Speaking of Peter Witts, Brooklyn's indeed were hardy cars, lasting into the 1950's.
Baltimore's Witts (BTC), also, lasted into the 1950's, but they presented a different appearance from a "traditional" Witt; their more angular front ends and overall appearance always reminded me more of a Brillmaster car.......

here are a few late 1950's views of trolleybuses at the Bridge Plaza station; note no traces remain of the original trolley facility, with its multiple platforms and interlocking tower.
It is obvious that, after the streetcars were replaced by buses, the old facility was torn down, and the new open-air facility replaced it.
Too, after the old station was demolished, it appears the site of the new bus lanes was also relocated.......

This 1963 photo is from earlier in this discussion; it would appear, judging from this photo and others, that the old Bridge Plaza station site was not re-used after the facility came down.......

... now lets get back to 1969!
This is a 1969 Flxible, model 111CC-D51, #4111 on route B58, Ridgewood, shortly after entering service.
The driver was very dapper, blue uniform with a cap!
(a bit of trivia--- the camera used for these two photos was a Kodak Instamatic!)

MaBSTOA 15:
As usual, MASTERPIECES ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LOVE that '69 Flex....now THAT is a BUS!!!!!!!!
That old fare box also brings back a LOT of memories!!!
The Park Row trolley terminal photos are OUTSTANDING!
Until 1944, the BMT El trains also crossed the Bridge from Park Row; in that year, the El trains stopped crossing the bridge, and the massive stations at Park Row and Sands Street were demolished.
The trolleys were switched over to the former El tracks, to allow for the addition of another vehicular lane in each direction.
Now, the Park Row trolley loops were exposed to the elements; note the lone deck roof car in the top photo; this retired car was used as a waiting room for Park Row passengers, with electrical connections to provide heat and lights.
The IRT's classic kiosks also stand out in that top photo (the City Hall loop station had closed in 1945, and was unique in that it was never equipped with turnstiles, nor gap fillers); tickets were required to board, and the old "ticket chopper" boxes, dating back to the earliest INTERBOROUGH days, were used right until the end.
The B&QT streetcars ran over the Bridge until 1950; after that, there was no longer any sort of rapid transit over the mighty span........

This picture dates to after the 1944 removal of El trains from the Brooklyn Bridge; the PCC seen here is now using the former elevated tracks.
The background looks quite barren without the hulking and massive Park Row elevated terminal.......

B&QT #8482 crossing the Brooklyn Bridge, in 1941.
Note both the El tracks and the heavy steel overhead girder work for the trolley wires......

Is that an Avenue B and East Broadway Mack circling the small island at the tip of City Hall Park? I think the TARS car is a sand car, to load sand into a box near the starting point of route T. Motormen were responsible for filling the sandboxes in their cars, to allow for grip on wet or icy rails. I think pressing down on the brake handle dropped sand above the brake shoes.
By the way, that is not trolley car! No trolley poles on this route. Call it a street car or a work car, powered from the conduit.

The last time I was here was for a Yankees victory parade.

'Tee-Yay' #7065 is what I mean by their bus number using the same serif fonts as used to be ubuiquitous on FACCo/NYCO fleets. No doubt a byproduct of the city takeover of the FACL/Surface network and the creation of MaBSTOA as a TA subsidiary.

It wasn't just this bus that was entering service in that time period. The 'BROADWAY' street sign variant also dated to 1969. In Manhattan it was most prevalent below 23rd Street and above Columbus Circle. (Though I once saw that type of sign with a 'W 40 ST' from that same vintage within the west side of that thoroughfare.)
Also . . .
. . . at what point would two- or three-letter depot codes start appearing on fareboxes, given such absence here (i.e. just the farebox number displayed)?
