This vintage scene I dedicate to our late friend and highly-valued mentor, "Mr. Green Bus" himself, Mr. Linsky......... Wink

Roosevelt Field, 1981.

The roll signs on these MSBA buses could EASILY be read from a block away...... Very Happy

When this picture was snapped, eons ago, I doubt any of us was thinking that, one day, buses like these would be considered "historic" and "classic".

I know Your's Truly sure as heck didn't..... Shocked

Here's a few nostalgic MaBSTOA shots......

*On the right is the IRT's handsome old 72nd St. station house, and, just glimpsed in the background, a "pinch-hitting" WAMATA bus.

IMHO, I believe that some bus enthusiasts think that, after the Fishbowls and Flexies, that there were no more "true" MaBSTOA buses after that.

Though the now-gone RTS has since become a classic in its own right (and deservedly so), it seems as though that the long-gone, ill-fated GRUMMAN is still a bus that has become largely ignored by all but the most dedicated, astute, and die-hard "Noo Yawk" bus enthusiasts/historians.

I, for one, sure as heck wouldn't mind going back some 40-odd years and go happily snapping away with my trusty KODAK Instamatic! Very Happy

I will admit, at the time, I was not all that enamored with them at first, but, as time passed, grew to like them a lot (ditto for the FLEX METRO)

One GOOD thing about the GRUMMANS departing the fleet when they did, however.....they were spared being painted in that godawful "Vanilla Dip" scheme....(!!) Shocked

Back in '82*, I don't think any of us thought of such a scene as one day being regarded as "nostalgic"...I know I sure didn't........ Rolling Eyes

The 'I' had to be taken out because the Gulton Luminator display, being as it had 15 5x7 dot matrix characters, had to keep it abbreviated. (And among electronic signs, I still prefer theirs to TransDot's.)

W.B.:

Ahhh, so that explains the missing "I"........I am much obliged, Sherlock! Wink

You and I are on the same wavelength; I, myself, have always preferred the "Gulton Luminators" over the others.......

This is, without a doubt, my all-time favorite GRUMMAN* photo.....sure wish more of the "Em-Tee-Yay"/MaBSTOA fleet had been suitably equipped.......(!!) Wink
