MABSTOA 15:

SUPER photos, as always! (bus.nycsubway.org) is virtually limitless, with its bus photo archives, especially New York's fleets....an INVALUABLE research tool!)

Without a doubt, the 1960's "TEE-YAY" green was the BEST paint scheme worn by both the GMC's and Flexies; I also liked the two-tone blue of the 70's.

I could live with the first blue-white scheme that appeared later on, but I HATED.....repeat, HATED the very last paint they wore, the one I, long long ago dubbed the "VANILLA DIP".

To me, it looked like someone took a scale model bus and simply dipped into a can of white paint, and then applied a few decals.....YECCCHHH!!!!!! Razz Razz

(Of course, I did not mind the RTS sporting this scheme!)

Especially in the original green, the Flexies somehow looked "tougher" than the GMC's (NOT that the GM's were welterweights, by any means!!) Wink

I still enjoy picturing a GRUMMAN in "Tee-Yay" green, just for the fun of it...... Rolling Eyes

"NYO"

Flex #9130 holding down a S-103 run, back in 1978.

This was, in all honesty, the final paint scheme on both the GMC and Flexie New Looks that I liked.......

Though the classic "TEE-YAY" green was, and STILL is, my favorite GMC/Flex paint, I've always found it easy to like the two-tone blue of the 70's......

ROCKLAND COACHES Flex #7722 approaching the Lincoln Tunnel, on a sunny day, back in 1981.

Though the size of the windshield is inspired by GM's New Looks, it is clear that the windshield is merely a greatly enlarged version of that used on TWIN's postwar coaches, as we have noted earlier.

(added bonus: take a look at what is outbound on the overpass, passing overhead! Also, if you look VERY closely, you can just make out a bit of a 4104, just beyond the overpass!)

(This one is one of my faves!)

Though there are no Flexies in this 1973 MSBA photo, this pic is too good not to post here....... Wink

175th St. & Southern Boulevard, 1970.

An interesting contrast between the designs of a (MABSTOA) Flex New Look and a battle-scarred Old Look.......

Seeing these pictures . . .

. . . and noticing the '5' sign on front, this would appear to be 135th Street just west of Broadway, as it's about to turn south on Riverside Drive.

VERY NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Very Happy Very Happy

Wasn't this a demo, that also ran for the CTA? (or did the CTA roster a number of these New Looks with this style window?)

I've seen a photo of what looks to be the same bus in the photos you posted (with the same unusual windows), but numbered #8600.....
