Sad to say but FLA, UP and JAM appear to be the last depots still running RTSs. Not very long ago they were still running out of GA and ENY.

What about MJQ and MH? I've seen RTS's from those depots passing by. Unless those two retired their said fleets.

Staten Island RTS's......

When were they first assigned to Staten Island depots?

What buses did they replace?

When were the last RTS's retired from Staten Island routes?

Thanks......... Wink

It appears that the last of the RTS ran on April 30th. Word is, they have been grounded, and there will be some ceremony at 2 Broadway on May 6th.

I've been informed that the last-ever RTS ride will occur Monday, May 6 starting at 9:10 A.M. on the M55 at 44th Street and Sixth Avenue, and going down its regular route up to 2 Broadway and then a display with the museum RTS.

W.B.:

The Last Old Look made its final run in the Big Apple decades ago; the once-familiar GMC and Flex New Looks, likewise, have long ago made their last runs.

Ditto the ill-fated GRUMMANS.

Like the buses before them, we thought that the commonplace RTS would be around forever and a day......however, as we all well know, "forever" is but a word........ Sad

And I was one of a packed number of people who took that last RTS bus ride, on TMC-built #5241 assigned to the M55, on the trip from 44th Street and Sixth Avenue to Broadway and Rector Street. It left the former at 11:21 A.M. and arrived at the latter at 12:15 P.M. - 54 minutes. Besides the usual bus buffs, a few "regular" passengers got on the bus, one of whom paid with coins, and another a blind person. I'm sure a few of those who boarded over the course of the trip were unaware of the significance of that ride.

At the display, the "museum" bus was TMC-built #5249.

I could swear that electronic sign was a retrofit/replacement for an earlier one . . .

W.B.:

You were, indeed, a part of transit history today; I was not there in body, but was indeed there in spirit.

Hard to believe that, after nearly 40 years on the streets of New York, the timeless RTS has ridden off into the sunset, forever relegated to the pages of transit history.....

NovaBus, not TMC. The orange signs were retrofitted around 2008.

RTS #4149 at the 2001 Bus Fest.

Interesting to think that, when this photo was taken, the RTS would be serving MTA bus routes for 18 more years.

Time flies...........much too fast.......

Sheesh! At least they didn't try to retrofit that section with a GMC RTS plate.

Back in the later 90's, I remember ACADEMY operating (at least a few) ex-MTA RTS's on the "#22 HILLSIDE" line in my area.

Can anyone provide any info on these buses? (numbers, etc.)

Thanks in advance.......

According to CPTDB, NYC numbers were 1591, 1668, 1671, 1673, 1676, 1683-1684, 1701, 1708, 1710, 1715-1718, 1721, 1730, 1783, 1790, 1802, 1806, and 1851. 1591 was Acedemy #53, 1673 was Academy #87, and 1710 was Academy #82. I caught a few of them (40, 82, and 87) scrapped at Nimco in 2004. 40 had been in service for Continental Airlines, and 82 and 87 were branded Tri State Transportation.
