MaBSTOA 15:
Appreciate your posting the company's roster; I can see that you were quite enamored with the company (and who could blame you?)
"AVENUE B" had the distinction of being the last New York company to operate MACKS (the NYCTA MACKS were all gone, I believe, by 1969)
I still remember MACKS and Old Looks dominating the St. George ferry terminal, back in the early and mid-1960's.
In my area of New Jersey, the very last company to operate MACKS ("New Looks") was BLUE & WHITE, whose yard was on on Tonnelle Avenue in North Bergen; I visited the yard a few times and was able to get some really good photos of their diverse fleet (I believe the MACKS were ex-Yonkers)
I remember the buses being signed for the "#97 PATERSON", which, when I was growing up, was a Journal Square-Paterson route, operated by long-defunct "INTER-CITY"; "MAPLEWOOD EQUIPMENT COMPANY" took over the INTER-CITY routes; likewise, ORANGE & BLACK........

Also, what happened to Avenue B’s M-7, M-7A, M-9A, M-9B, MQ-20, MN-20, MN-21, and MW-20 routes? |
Hope to apprise you in any which way:
- The M8 Grand Street and M9 Avenue B lines were assigned to Hudson depot (much nearer to the route paths in question than the TA's 'MAN' depot at 126th Street and Second Avenue). They would have used whatever buses also plied M11, M13, M14A/D, M16, M21 and M26 routes (M12 Spring-Delancey was discontinued in 1979).
- The M-7 express was combined into MaBSTOA's already existing X23 route which was based out of 100th Street depot. (There was already MaBSTOA's M7 Broadway-Columbus-Lenox line, ex Fifth Avenue Coach Lines NYCO Division, ex New York City Omnibus; plus, as known from 1935-74, M-7 65th Street Crosstown which was renumbered M29 in 1974 [and M66 in 1989], as well as a very obscure FACCo line, 7 Washington Heights-Harlem, that ran between 125th and 193rd Streets from 1917 until 1936.)
All the others, I have to presume, fell by the wayside. |

Thanks for the info.
But now I wonder what the destination sign readings were for the MaBSTOA M-8 and M-9 routes. As well as the color scheme, i.e. white on black or white on blue?? |

Same as other OA and TA bus routes - split blue and red with white type set in Standard Medium. |

Quick question:
Had the "AVENUE B" lasted long enough as an "indy" to operate newer buses, (GRUMMAN/RTS) do you think it would have been possible that the company could have lasted as long as the other NY "indy" companies (GREEN BUS, TRIBORO, etc.), before the inevitable MTA takeover?

Possibly somewhere in the middle, between when they actually threw in the towel and the MTA takeover of the other bus companies. |

W.B:
This would sound about right.
I only regret that I did not know about the "AVENUE B." when I was in high school; that was when they were still running the MACKS, and I had not seen a MACK in my own neighborhood since about 1967.
All I know is that, I would have been coming into the city FREQUENTLY, armed with my trusty KODAK Instamatic and PLENTY of film, and having myself one heckuva good ol' time.........
