A few of those RTS's with my favorite electronic front and side destination signs (all pics courtesy bus.nycsubway.org):

First, from the MaBSTOA side o' things:

A few "on loan" to Crosstown in Brooklyn, 1982 (apparently when first delivered, all the side windows were sealed):
https://bus.nycsubway.org/perl/show?3299

M11 passing through the "other side" of what is now the Farley Post Office at Ninth Avenue and 31st Street, 1983:
https://bus.nycsubway.org/perl/show?3301

Another M16 (PA2636) trodding through the snow, 1983:
https://bus.nycsubway.org/perl/show?3304

Then from the TA side:

1852 (ex PA1852) on M30 run at 57th and Sixth some time after 1994:

W.B.:

A WONDERFUL selection of old RTS photos; thanks for posting the links here to share with the rest of the gang! Wink

These photos (and also those I posted) truly give a good "feel" for the days when most of us (myself included) took the RTS for granted.

I was too busy watching the remaining New Looks, I guess....that, and railfanning the subways, especially the classic "SMEE" cars.

It was the same in New Jersey; it was not until they were into their twilight years, that I finally began to appreciate the GRUMMANS/METROS....yes, I still miss 'em today.

I also remember ACADEMY, in addition to the several ex-MTA RTS coaches they operated on the "#22 HILLSIDE", rostered several ex-DART RTS's, back in the 1990's.

They (the ex-DART units) were good buses overall, but their a/c's left a lot to be desired!

Still, I certainly would not hesitate to ride one of them today, no matter the weather....... Very Happy

I love classic winter scenes like these, where city buses (of course, RTS's are featured here!) are all decked out in their fashionable coats of "Noo Yawk" winter grime, carrying on the grand old tradition of grimy city buses "sluggin' it out" through the slush and slop.....

Here's another classic "RTS In Da Snow" portrait from way back in the year 1982 (B'Way & 225th).........

Crosstown depot had closed down at that point. Those RTS's were there for storage.

Hmmm. Must've been when they were being "broken in."

Fordham Plaza, 1981.

Here is an interesting comparison study in the changes in transit bus designs, over the decades.......

Talk about a generation gap, in a same Q10 bus stop, Green Bus had a slope back RTS and a GM Old Look together. Wish I had a camera with me that day.

B53 Rich:

Man, what a shame you could not get that "generation gap" captured on film!!!! Shocked Shocked Shocked

Though I never saw (or rode) a "slope back" in person, except for riding one on a shuttle near Disney World, back in 1985, they still remain my favorite of all the RTS buses.

"HOT WHEELS" issued a "slope back" RTS, back in the 80's; I also have one that I had custom-painted for Baltimore's MTA...... Very Happy

B53:

Though no Old Look is in this 1979 photo (Kew Gardens Blvd & 81st Avenue), it still makes for an interesting Green Bus "generation gap" study.....
