Just as an aside, I posted this link:

https://www.mlb.com/mets/ballpark/transportation/public

I must admit I was surprised to learn that 15 different MTA bus lines serve Citi Field (not to mention the LONG ISLAND BUS connections to the #7 train at Flushing).......

Fellows:

I was truly LUCKY to have come across this classic "gathering of the buses" at Willets Point/Shea Stadium, circa-1965!!! Very Happy Very Happy

All I can say is, "AMAZIN' "!

Here, PSNJ New Looks dominate the scene (not one PSNJ Old Look is to be seen!); a 4104 and 4106 are also on hand; in the right background is a SILVERSIDES (a classic, even then!)

On the far left, a suburban Old Look is visible (cannot tell what company it operated for); of special note is the bus towards the center; it certainly stands out from the more commonplace GMC's!

I'm scratching my head with that one....perhaps a PREVOST of that era??

In any event, this scene is truly classic; note, too, the train of "Bluebirds", the IRT interlocking tower, and old power station.............

Fast-forward to the early 21st century; the buses seen here are clearly not spanking-new SURFACE Macks!

Note, also, that the R-62 cars (themselves now replaced by NTT equipment on the #7) have replaced the time-honored "Bluebirds"/"Redbirds".

Times change.......

These next two photos, though not bus-oriented do tie in to the previous photos, taken at Willets Point/Shea Stadium, and are both historic in their own way, and poignant.

The first view (2008) shows the ramp leading from the IRT #7 trains to Shea; in this photo, a deserted air of melancholy strongly prevails.

Think of the millions of Mets fans that once thronged this area for decades on game days!

What also makes this photo unusual is that, for now, the old Shea Stadium and the new, abuilding Citi Field are seen standing opposite one another....one about to vanish into history, and the other waiting to usher in a new era.......

This second photo shows the "changing of the guard", signage-wise, on the #7 platforms in 2009; here, the old signs for Shea Stadium are being replaced with the new signs, reflecting a new era.....

Indeed, time marches on..........

New York City transit buffs, Mets fans, and '64 World's Fair enthusiasts could clearly see that "all bases were loaded" with this cool-looking "dash sign"! Very Happy

Sure wouldn't mind having one of these signs, myself, for my transit archives....... Wink

This view dates to 2007.

Several MTA buses, resting up for their next runs, are seen at the bottom left of the photo.

Like the long lines of R-62 IRT cars laying up in the yards (displaced from the #7 by new NTT trains), Shea Stadium has also vanished from scene.......

Corona, 2003:

To my modern eye (at least) the buses still look quite current......

Referring to my earlier post (w/photo link 138957):

I am still scratching me head over that "mystery" highway coach in the center of that circa-1965 photo; I keep thinking it MIGHT have been a PREVOST, but I am still not at all sure.

Also, the Old Look suburban towards the left of the photo; cannot see any company markings at all.....hopefully, someone here might have a clue.....

The bus in question is not a Prevost. It is a Superior Coach. In fact it is a Superior luxury coach. These buses were mounted on GMC pusher chassis. I’m trying to find a picture to show you a better view.

MaBSTOA 15:

Thanks for clearing this one up! Wink

I THOUGHT it that bus MIGHT have been a PREVOST, but still had many doubts, as I could not find a photo in my PREVOST book that matched; I had TOTALLY forgot about SUPERIOR.

Certainly, that type of bus was NOT that common in the greater New York area!

Look forward to seeing a better photo of that bus....thank you! Wink

"NYO"

BTW: I guess we'll never know what company was operating the SILVERSIDES (I'm guessing some charter outfit), or the Old Look suburban on the left, unless some really "in the know" can recall the company!

Here is a closer view of the Superior Coach mounted on a GMC SPA-5019 chassis.

MaBSTOA 15:

Would I love to see one of these classics preserved today; thanks for taking the time to locate this photo and post it here.

To my eyes, it seems a conglomeration, if you will, of a GM intercity coach, a FLXIBLE Hi-Liner, and a PREVOST.....all in all, it makes for a distinctive (and FORMIDABLE!) hulk of a bus! Shocked

Again, thanks for sharing here (and solving the "mystery"!)..... Wink

Side by side a GM (TDH-4519) and a Mack of Avenue B and East Broadway...

MabSTOA 15:

Looks like that photo was some sort of "safety promo" photo on the hazards of "hitching" on a city bus!

Those MACK tanks sure take me back to the ones I grew up with in Hudson County, back in the 60's......also, the "FLAGG BROS." shoe store sign; the one I remember at Journal Square (back when the Square was still a thriving business district amid a sea of Old Looks, MACKS, and WHITES) I used to love see glittering at night!

Man, it's been well over 50 years since I last saw a MACK in my old neighborhood.......they truly were the "Jack Dempsey" of the bus world, back then! Wink
