Broadway & Park Row, 1972.
Here, this time, we see an Old Look (#7075); note how the advertising panel on the dash is mounted below the "GM" nameplate..........

*note, too, the empty destination sign box; you can also see the light bulbs that would usually be illuminating the roller curtain......

Not for now . . . but I can say where it was taken: 42nd Street and 10th Avenue, just outside the West Side Airlines Terminal. Where the parking lot across the street stood, is now the Manhattan Plaza apartment complex. (And yet another luxury high rise has since been put up where the West Side Airlines Terminal once was.)[/img] |

And the front rollsign recycled from one of the 1959-62 New Looks. (It wasn't just limited to MaBSTOA and their recycling of 1963 front rollsigns from within the 3301-3555 buses onto later orders.) |

Man, do you KNOW your stuff!!!!!!!
Right now, I must admit, I'm thinking about the OUTSTANDING book on MABSTOA history that you and our good friend (and also fellow resident MABSTOA expert) MaBSTOA 15 would put out, if you decided to "join forces"!
Again, I really love "getting into" this fascinating vintage "Noo Yawk" bus trivia......

Let your eyes feast on the "background elements" as well as New Look #8003, in this truly nostalgic scene from Brooklyn, 1972.......

New Look #8100 at Avenue H & Flatbush, 1972.
Again, the wonderfully nostalgic store signage serve to date this photo as much as the bus itself.......

My understanding is that since the buses with a/c and batwings (NYCTA 8001-8202 and MaBSTOA 8301-8780) had a factory mounted ad rack between the headlights, GM simply did not attached the GM emblem nor the aluminum trim between the headlights.
Why install it since you can see it! |

MBSTOA 15:
Thanks for sharing more info on the NYCTA/MTA New looks that I certainly had no inkling about!
In browsing through photos of New Looks in other cities, I have seen buses that never lost their "GM" nameplates, while others had either a fleet number or company insignia covering over the "GM" letters.
Hey, it sure made for some quite interesting-looking buses, back in the day!

Here we see #8877 at Kings Highway & E. 38th St., on a sunny day, back in 1972......
