Needless to say...Greyhound did not have any TDH version's...no automatic's in the Greyhound fleet until the first Allison HT-40 equipped MC-7's in the early 1970's.
The exception, was the special "Greyhound At The World's Fair" fleet in 1964.
They had several New Looks, both transit, and glass topped suburban's equipped with automatic's for use within the fairgrounds. |

I well recall those Fishbowls at the '64 Fair; Mom, my older brother (who was engaged at the time) and your's truly rode a couple of those babies (I can STILL smell that beautiful "new bus smell" accentuated by the cool air-conditioning, a BIG novelty for us at the time!)
Mom bought me a tin GREYHOUND Fishbowl that day (as well as a tin MC-5!), both of which resides in my collection today!
I also have the CORGI model that came out some years back.
The AMF Monorail (and the new IRT "Blue Birds") also added to the fun for a certain young transit buff!
Cannot believe it is now over a half-century later............(!!)

NYO...wowza, yowza! Great link, thanks so much for posting it!
I don't think they ever built an MC-5 with a glass top as rendered there, at least I have never seen one...
As for those 'Escorter's' for the 'rich people'....there's a shot of one, in the Jack Nicholson film, "King of Marvin Gardens", rolling down the boardwalk in Atlantic City in the early '70's. (Lot's of other good nostalgic stuff in there too, including the underground walkways in Philly, and the PTC subway-surface cars as well as several Old Look buses...
There was a transit bus route not shown in those maps...it was a free service from the Lake Amusement Area gate to the Meadow Lake outer parking lot, at the south end of the park. Like the rest of Greyhound's fleet, these were also air conditioned.
As a youth, my friends and I would save a bus fare from my home to the Fair, by walking just over a mile to the far corner of the lot at Van Wyck Expressway and Jewel Avenue. We would then ride in comfort the last mile or so to the fair gate. I remember riding them on one very hot and humid summer day, where the humid air condensed outside all the side windows...
Sitting in the back seat, and poking the foam covered AC condenser above our heads...getting off at the gate, and being blasted by the hot humid air outside...
Ahhhh...seems like 'yesterday'..... |

I had the feeling you might enjoy that link.......
Yopu are MORE than welcome, my friend!
Regarding the glass-roof MC-5, as I said, I have a two tin litho MC-5's with "sightseeing" roofs; the one Mom bought for me at the Fair has the WF logo lithoed on both sides, while the other (exactly the same) lacks the WF logo.
One has to scratch his head and wonder just how much WF bus memorabilia survives today; about a year ago, a large metal "WORLD'S FAIR BUS STOP" sign went for HUGE $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ on eBay........needless to say, I didn't purchase it....oh, well......

Any and all memorabilia/toys depicting the "GLIDE-A-RIDE" and "ESCORTERS" are, not surprisingly, VERY rare and QUITE pricey today.
Mom, my brother and I DID take a "GLIDE" tour, and we were right behind the driver (no complaints from your's truly!)
We were also VERY lucky to see "Lady Greyhound"; we were pretty close, but not close enough to this beautiful dog to suit me!
A lifelong dog lover, my favorite dog was, up to then, was "LASSIE"; "LADY GREYHOUND", not surprisingly, was right up there next to here in my book.....I was in LOVE....what a MAGNIFICENT pup!
Man, to able to go back and do it all over again.....

How can that be New York City Transit, as labeled below the photo? It has New Jersey plates and no exit door. The fleet number 623 might be a clue as to ownership. |

N4:
I was thinking the same thing; clearly, this bus was a New Jersey coach, but it is odd to see no company name anywhere on the bus, which was quite unusual for that time.
There IS lettering near the skirting, but it is impossible to make out what it says.
Right now, your guess is as good as mine on this one.....

Recalling the GREYHOUND Fishbowls at the Fair with sightseeing roofs:
Long ago, elsewhere on this board, I recall learning that, after the Fair, at least some of the sightseeing roof Fishbowls went to operators in the NY/NJ area.
I believe SOMERSET had at least at few; also GRAY LINE and possibly ARROW TRAILWAYS.
Here are some photos that possibly show ex-GREYHOUND World's Fair sightseeing Fishbowls........
http://bus.nycsubway.org/perl/show?1514 (note that the lead bus sporting the then-new RED & TAN paint) is signed for the #5, which was, for decades, a NORTH HUDSON BOULEVARD route; another sightseeing roof R&T Bus follows (sporting the old paint))

Greyhound must have sold them pretty cheap to get rid of them...they were probably a good buy, only being a couple of years old, with fairly low use during the two Fair seasons...
I'm thinking that Greyhound might have sent some of them to San Francisco, but not sure. Greyhound around that time or shortly thereafter, acquired Gray Line-New York, Walter's Transit, and Carey Transportation....some of them might have gone to those properties, as well.... |

It would be interesting to know the dispositions of the ex-WF Greyhound Fishbowls; I know that some ended up in suburban commuter service (I had heard that SOMERSET got at least a few)
PSNJ also had suburban Fishbowls with sightseeing roofs, as did ORANGE & BLACK; whether or not these were ex-GREYHOUND units or simply "bought off the rack" from GM, I cannot say.
However, I well recall riding on them, especially the ex-ORANGE & BLACK buses; they made commuting a little bit more of an "adventure", at least your humble writer......
