I have also been curious as to the original assignments of the FACL Fishbowls. According to another thread, as of September 1962 (six months into MaBSTOA's operations of former FACO, NYCO and ST lines) the buses were assigned thus:
- 34 at 132nd Street (1-5 / 3211-3215, 3101-3104, 3111-3135?)
- 26 at 146th Street (3105-3110?, 3136-3155?)
- 5 at 54th Street (3156-3160?) (3156 verified on a Route 16 - 34th Street Crosstown run c.1960-61)
But according to another message board, a few of the Fishbowls, at the onset of their service to FACL, were scattered at a few more depots, but taken from them and placed to other MaBSTOA properties. One swore a few Fishbowls were assigned to Jackson Heights where they ran on a few 15 - Jackson Heights buses; that pic you've no doubt seen of FACL 3110 on Rt. 2 - 4th and Madison Avenue makes one wonder if 100th Street got a few of the new kids on the block as well, but likewise taken out of there at the outset of the MaBSTOA era.
A Nov. 1, 1960 Times article about the arrival of 3111-3210 noted that they would run on 17 routes. We know from vintage photos that 4 and 5, among the FACO Division routes, ran these newies, ditto for NYCO Division 2 and 16 and ST's M-106 and Bx-31. (That makes six; if NYCO Division 3 and 4 in the months before July 17, 1960, then eight.) Amsterdam doubtless would've had 3161-3180 or 3185; I've been told the 6-10 (later 3215-3220) were sent to the Bronx, and West Farms would've likely had 3201-3210. |
