All:

Nostalgic old transit photos here (rails 'n rubber!); the snowy 1951 street scene will be especially interesting to bus enthusiasts! Very Happy

Enjoy! Wink

traildriver:

BTC (Baltimore) in 1938 experimented with an articulated TWIN COACH which also came to be called "Queen Mary" (the bus seated 56 passengers); the BTC considered ordering another TWIN COACH articulated, but never did.

This bus was used mostly during the AM and PM rush hours, mostly on the "Q" line.

Though a most impressive vehicle, to be sure, this articulated bus was not a huge success, by any means.

Diesel engine problems plagued the coach, and the bus (#1019) also had problems climbing hills, especially when the weather was inclement.

Ultimately, this unique bus met its end at the UNITED IRON & METAL Co., ironically, a business that was served by the "Q" line..........

Rare photos showing TWIN COACH articulated motor/trolley buses are included on this page (BTC's "Queen Mary" is also depicted here)........

Sidenote:

Though the BTC only had one articulated bus on its roster ("Queen Mary" #1019) during the 30's and 40's, it did, however, operate articulated streetcars.

These cars were built by joining older carbodies (open cars and semi-convertibles) to create new, modern articulated units.

These big cars made their debut on Baltimore's rails in 1924.

The articulateds were in two series:

The 8100's were built using semi-convertible cars; the 8500's, however, were rebuilt open cars, that also utilized salvaged semi parts.

At one time, at least 75-80 articulated streetcars ran in Baltimore; by 1948, however, that had all been retired and all, sadly, were scrapped......

Another great link, NYO...thanks!

I was more interested in the pictures of the American Buslines TC's ....
Notice that their logo was later adapted for the Silver and Golden Eagles....

Continental Trailways inherited that design, after they purchased American Buslines in 1954....at first the words were changed to "Continental Trailways", in the circle...and later into either "Golden Eagle" or "Silver Eagle" as appropriate. I have a jacket emblem with the CT design on it.

Prior to that design, Continental Trailways used an updated badge that originally read "Continental Trailways" in the former Continental Bus System emblem, which was different...

I have all of those in my badge collecition... Smile

traildriver:

It is so hard to believe that CONTINENTAL TRAILWAYS (and its stately SILVER and GOLDEN Eagles) is long gone, vanished into history's yellowing pages.

The original EAGLES (European-built) were at once both sleek and startling....they indeed made one's head turn! Shocked

Getting back to articulation, you will certainly recall the articulated "Super Eagles".........man, just imagine an articulated "SCENICRUISER"........(!!) Shocked Shocked
