Service on bus routes in Manhattan and the Bronx that were formerly operated by Fifth Avenue Coach Lines, Inc. and Surface Transit, Inc., resume under the aegis of a new agency, the Manhattan and Bronx Surface Transit Operating Authority (MaBSTOA). By all accounts, service was spotty but better than expected.
At the outset, only bus routes from Surface Transit and the former New York City Omnibus Corporation (NYCO) are in operation. Ex-Fifth Avenue Coach (FACCo) routes #3 (Fifth/Convent or St. Nicholas Avenues), #4 (Fifth/Fort Washington Avenues), #5 (Fifth/Riverside Drive), #15 (Fifth/Jackson Heights), #16 (Elmhurst crosstown) and #20 (57th Street crosstown) would be back on the streets March 30; FACCO's #2 (Fifth/Seventh/Edgecombe Avenues) and #6 (72nd Street crosstown) would not return to service until July 1. (#15 and #16 at that time were out of the now-defunct Jackson Heights depot, while all others emanated from 132nd Street depot.)
Three routes in the interim had been discontinued, all of which at that point were running only once a day: FACCo's #1, NYCO's #22, and Surface Transit's M-105. |
