Dear Bus Enthusiasts,

It's me again, hope everyone is enjoying the new year and everyone is prospering in some way. I have a curious question, I know Mr. Linsky the superstar GBL historian, or someone else can answer this.
The Q7 back in the days, on their old transfers in the 60's, had the Q7 listed as going to Cornell Park. Was this the same place and same area as going to the Cargo Area as it was constituted back in the 50's and 60's? Also, on southbound Q9 transfers, it always said, 'South to Lombard Street'. Where exactly was Lombard Street? Was it the same as Lincoln Street? Please give me some information on this! GOD bless and thank you.

Henry,

As usual, you've come to the source!

The Q7 did terminate at Cornell Park after the completion of Green Line's first consolidated garage in 1939 at 148th. Street and 147th. Avenue in what were then only marshes just west of the present JFK Depot.

As the later Idlewild Airport developed and the area built up, the line was further extended to the present cargo facilities.

The Q7 originally replaced a one time trolley line that ran from the Grant Street station of the Fulton Street El. via Rockaway Boulevard to North Conduit Avenue and New York Boulevard.

The Q9 Lincoln Street ran from Jamaica LIRR station via Sutphin Boulevard, 101st. Avenue (Jerome), Van Wyck Boulevard, Lincoln Street and then across Rockaway Boulevard to terminate at Lombard Street (once known as Bergen's Landing) just north of North Conduit Avenue.

While I never drove the Q9, I do remember Lombard Street as being one of the destinations on the rollers.

Henry,

I thought you'd like to see a picture of what the Cornell Park garage looked like when it was new (see below).

The building, which is now owned by the Port Authority, still stands but has had the facade changed to the point that it is almost unrecognizable.

Enjoy.
