The MBTA issued an RFP for 325 hybrid and CNG buses today. These will replace the remaining RTS, the C40LFs, and all the NABIs. There will be another RFP in the near future for 44 60-foot buses to replace the AN460LFs.

The Xcelsiors entered service on November 19th. There are nine buses in service so far and they are primarily in service on route 93 Sullivan Square-Downtown and 111 Woodlawn-Haymarket but also see service on other Charlestown Garage routes.

As of November 26th there were 95 RTS buses in active service. Supposedly the new Xcelsiors will replace all of the RTS's at Charlestown, leaving the remaining 35 or so RTS's at Lynn and Quincy as the last of this model on the MBTA system. Some RTS buses have received body work and painting recently at Everett Shops.

Looks like the MBTA may become the launch customer for the New Flyer XE60.

"The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) in Boston will receive funding to develop and deploy five 60-foot articulated New Flyer battery-electric buses on the MBTA Silver Line Bus Rapid Transit System. The new zero-emission buses will have improved performance on ice and snow-covered roads."

I see that 2 agencies in my area, BARTA in Reading and Red Rose in Lancaster are getting funding for Gillig electric hybrids.

As of a couple of weeks ago, the MBTA retired its C40LF fleet.
