The first thing that caught my attention was not the two models atop of the bus, but the extended destination box that houses florescent light tubing. Bus #2615 is a '58 TDH-5106.

Rare to see a Route 1 Fifth Avenue roll sign on a 5106. Rt. 1 was a once-a-day tripper using a 4506 by the late '50's.

It just goes to show that we're both true blue bus fans who can pick out details that others may miss. I never have trouble finding Waldo either! LOL

I remember seeing those 5106's during their golden years in the late '60's, working the B46 down Utica Ave. in Flatbush. I always wondered why they had that bulging sign housing.

Which enabled Fifth Avenue Coach Lines, after the city stripped them of all their bus routes in March 1962 in the middle of the TWU strike against the company, to argue they held that route's franchise "in perpetuity" and prevailed upon a judge to prohibit MaBSTOA from resuming service on it, therefore Fifth Avenue would not see another 1 bus traveling along until the Jan. 14, 1966 one-way conversions of Fifth and Madison Avenues that saw ex-NYCO Rt. 1 - Fourth and Madison Avenues' southbound route moved to Fifth between 135th and 40th Streets. (It is thus doubly ironic that, since the June 27, 2010 service changes, today's M1 is, south of 135th, a de facto revival of the FACCo 1 route, accounting for the 1963 closure of Washington Square to bus traffic; the rerouting, a few months later, of two of the ex-FACCo routes [2 and 3] to a new southern terminus, 8th Street and Fourth Avenue; and the 1966 Fifth and Madison one-way changes.)
Why a 5106 would be used for this display is obvious. It wouldn't have looked as good if the gals danced on top of a 4506, now, would it?

Imagine trying to dance atop a C40LF or Orion VII HEV!
