Bob,

There are inaccuracies in the statement quoted as follows;

"Under new ownership, Jamaica Buses acquired its first diesel coaches, Mack C-45DTs, which already were in Green's fleet. Older buses were pressed into service on very successful routes running bettors to the horse tracks at Aqueduct, Belmont Park and Jamaica. During the 1950s, Jamaica Buses joined the rest of the industry in moving to General Motors coaches, both Old Look and New Look".

Prior to the purchase of Jamaica Buses by Green Line in 1949, the company had already taken delivery of fifteen Mack C-45 GT's (400 to 414) in 1947 and ten C-45 DT's (500 to 509) in early 1949 before merger.

At takeover, Jamaica had an order in with Mack for another ten C-45 DT's to be numbered 550 to 559 but when Green Line saw it on Jamaica's books they ordered it cancelled to be replaced by GM 4509's due to a prewar argument that Green had with Mack.

Jamaica fought with Green over the issue and won on the premise that they were a Mack shop and to change to another manufacturer would mean a whole new parts department and its costs.

The only Green Line Macks on the scene at the time were their prewar CM's and CT's with most eventually transferred to Jamaica - Green became a devout GM customer immediately after the war.

When the author writes, "A series of strikes led to the creation of the state-run MTA in 2004." he means to say that "A series of strikes led to the creation of the state-run MTA Bus Company in 2004." As we all know, the main MTA was created in the late 1960s.
