The state of Connecticut, in an effort to improve transit service, is adding service this month that will fill some of the gaps in weekend bus service.

Starting Sunday (September 9th), CT Transit New Haven division will being operating Sunday service on the J4 route, between New Haven and Waterbury. Service will be operated hourly, and is timed to facilitate connections with Waterbury division buses. Most trips will operate express between New Haven and Centerville via I-91, and carry the J4x designation.

Starting September 15, Saturday service on the New Haven C route will be extended to Kohl's Paza on the Wallingford - Meriden line. Also, a single Meriden division bus will begin operating on Saturdays, running between Kohl's Plaza, downtown Meriden and the Westfield Shoppingtown (Meriden Square) mall, where connections can be made to the New Britain division AR route. This service combines portions of the Meriden A and B routes. The Meriden bus will also be providing off-route service to accommodate ADA passengers (by advance reservation), who cannot reach regular bus stops along the route. Service on these routes will be operated about once every hour and a half.

With the institution of these new services it is, at least in theory, possible to travel on a Saturday from New York City all the way to Hartford on connecting local bus service, and on Sundays from New York to Waterbury. It certainly gives new opportunities for busfanning in Connecticut on the weekends.
