A SCENICRUISER "ancestor" indeed.......this sleek 1937 KENWORTH was years ahead of its time in the highway coach field........

Another bus which easily could have inspired the SCENICRUISER was the handsome PEGASO Z-403.......

Some interesting SCENICRUISER trivia:

In 1968, PD4501-591 became the first SCENICRUISER to be sold by Greyhound for further service with another company.

This bus was sold to MICHAUD BUS LINES of Salem, Mass., and became the "YANKEE TRAVELER" (#181)

In the end, regarding GREYHOUND's selling off of the SCENICRUISERS, 400 of the buses eventually entered the used bus market.

Many charter bus companies, churches, schools, and bands became interested in purchasing SCENICRUISERS as Greyhound began to diverse itself, slowly but surely, of the iconic SCENICRUISER........

NYCO,

Thought this find on eBay might add a bit of flavor to your already very interesting thread;

Mr. "L":

Many thanks....will have to keep this in mind for my bus library!

It has been written that no other American bus was replicated in toy form, nor was as well known and as popular, as the famed SCENICRUISER....it indeed was "the Queen Of The Highway"!

So hard to believe that these iconic buses have been out of the GREYHOUND fleet for nearly 40 years now......IMHO, nothing on the face of the earth said "GREYHOUND" like the SCENICRUISER.

Recall, too, in the days before UPS and FedEx, SCENICRUISER "Combo Cars" were delivering packages to customers far and near!

Truly a bus with a most fascinating history.....

The forgotten hulk of a former converted SCENICRUISER "Combo Car"........aaaaahhhhh, the stories this historic coach could tell if granted the power of speech, if only for a day.......

Beginning in 1967, nearly 100 SCENICRUISERS were converted into passenger/cargo "Combo Cars".

The first two converted were CENTRAL GREYHOUND LINES' #1392, and SOUTHERN GREYHOUND LINES #5413.

The latter coach had all the seats on the upper level removed and converted into a cargo area, with only the lower level seats remaining for passengers.......

Another early SCENICRUISER ancestor, a 1929 KENWORTH.

Similiar coaches were also built by FAGEOL..........

Take a look at this most unusual 1930's Italian coach; the driver HAD to have been in tip-top shape to manhandle this hulking behemoth!

Good thing the driver(s) of this monster didn't have to contend with the Holland Tunnel! Shocked
