A quiet moment of rest for ancient QUEENS-NASSAU TRANSIT coach #49, snapped on a sunny day in 1956.
Note ACF-BRILL C-44 in the background......

NYO,
The one thing that you failed to mention about Queens/Nassau Transit Lines #49 was the company slogan (The Route of the Orange Bus) written diagonally under the driver's side window.
It appears almost as though it wasn't to be seen at all instead of being prominently placed above the passenger windows ala Surface Transportation's 'Ride The Surface Way' or Fifth Avenue's 'Go The Motor Coach Way'.
Whatever; I believe that only a handful of the company's ACF's ever carried it.
Enjoy the photo.

Mr. "L":
Yes, that "RIDE THE ORANGE BUS" slogan was so "subtle" that the first time I ever saw the photo, I actually thought it was some sort of watermark!
Speaking of "GO THE MOTOR COACH WAY", one of the most unusual vintage toy buses in my archives dates to the early 60's, and sports "GO THE MOTOR COACH WAY" above the standee windows.
This neat old Japanese tin toy looks like a generic cross between and Old Look and a New Look MACK!
The bus is red, white, and blue, and has "EXPRESS" on the sides.
In all my years of collecting, this was the FIRST (and, to date) ONLY toy bus of any that features the famous "GO THE MOTOR COACH WAY" slogan!
On a related note, I have an old glossy photo (framed) sent to me by a fellow bus enthusiast years ago; it features CHICAGO MOTOR COACH #544 (Old Look) with "THE BOULEVARD ROUTE" above the windows.
I would haved LOVED to seen the buses in the old NHBL fleet sport similiar lettering!

From Guy E. Martin's "NEW YORK CITY TRANSIT BUSES":
".......in 1946, TRIBORO COACH was sold to GREEN BUS LINES, another Queens operator....."
".....as GREEN BUS LINES recieved new equipment, 15 older, but still-serviceable MACK 6-CT-3S's were sent to TRIBORO in 1951, displacing the oldest buses......"
