"END OF THE LINE" (1975)

Note that the Fishbowl is in far worse shape than the two MACKS alongside; perhaps it had been in an accident, or, possibly being used as a parts donor for the other Fishbowls that were replacing the mACKS)

The last MACKS in Manhattan were about to fade into history.....

This once magnificent AVENUE B & E. BROADWAY Mack certainly deserved better than this (just imagine this formidable beast from another era preserved and restored to its former glory, had it survived!)

"GENERATION GAP" (Water & Pike, 1974)

This is a very moody and atmospheric "only in New York" image.....

An interesting, if melancholy, yard scene from San Francisco (1974)

These MACKS look as though they have already been retired from service (note some have split rear windows, while others have a single curved rear window; I believe the latter were "New Look" MACKS).......

Quick question:

Were the suburban MACKS (C49's?) rostered by AVENUE B & EAST BROADWAY bought new, or were these second hand?

How many were there on the roster?

Thanks.....

I believe there were four Mack C-49DM suburbans on the Avenue B & East Broadway roster.

The first two were former Mack demonstrators that ran for a time on Public Service. I think the other two came from Schenectady Transportation Co. but I may be wrong. The bus shown gutted in an earlier post was one of the second two.

There weren't many of the C-49DM's. Greyhound bought 30 for its California operations and three for Richmond Greyhound Lines. After that, only a handful were built for other operators.

Thank you......this was just the info I was looking for!

The only "suburban/single door" MACKS I knew growing up were those operated by ORANGE & BLACK.

PACIFIC GREYHOUND rostered 30 C49DM's; RICHMOND GREYHOUND operated 4.

One GREYHOUND C49DM has thankfully survived, and is part of the PACIFIC BUS MUSEUM fleet........

Nice find. The only troubling thing is that the website hasn't been updated in quite some time
