Seen below is an interesting ad from a 1944 issue of Bus Transportation Magazine extolling the virtues of the company's quality bus window sashes and using Public Service Coordinated Transport of New Jersey as a pleased client.

The main interest here is the introduction of the passenger safety split sashes that appeared on so many GM Old Looks over the next sixteen years and their rightful claim that they did make a handsome replacement for the unsightly window bars that were required in New Jersey for so long.

However, their statement that Public Service was again reordering National sashes for their coaches was somewhat of an exaggeration merely because the company was GM's chief outsource and therefore the only choice that could be made by any operator (except for the type of sash).

I also have to take personally the company's blurb on the ease of operation of these windows in that most every Green Line (NY) 4507 that I drove had many that refused to open at all!

The Public Service bus showcased was one of 215 1944 40 passenger GM Coaches modeled as TG-4007's which were numbered from 8684 to 8899 and delivered to the Newark company in December of that year.

Of note is the war time steel body in place of scarce aluminum as evidenced by the double set of sideswipe moldings between the front wheel well and the rear door.

As a side note, National Lock Washer was sold to Charter Manufacturing of Mequon, Wisconsin in 1968., its chief competitor. Charter is still in business today.
